Does Panama City "need" sports/talk?

blah.. no we have two of them

what's next? b 95 the news sportz station? gag me.
(though rare as the signal comes in here, I do enjoy listening to that - we have a 94.9 that overslays it)

If your going to do news do it. Aside from some local HS football games, it should be one or the other.

Again, this area is in need of a 100KW on a 2,000 foot tower+ FM talker.
Coast to Coast anyone?

-Rob

Rob, haven't you figured it out yet? Eglin Air Force Base will never allow a 2000 foot tower within 50 miles of you. Eglin's not going away, so those short towers in FWB and Navarre are as big as they can be. Eglin was here first. They need the airspace, so it doesn't matter to them what the civilians want. If there's nothing on the radio after midnight, just go outside and listen to the bombs explode. You'll get used to it eventually.

There is a need for a Sports station in PC. Someone needs to start soaking up all those bar dollars. One station (with a signalthat covers the market) with no competition = big bucks.

We tried Fox Sports 24/7 on 590 AM and it never showed up in the book.....ESPN/1290...same thing....590 has a great signal (day and night)...can't say that for 1290.....it didn't work for either party....we are carrying Fox Sports midnight-5am on 94.5 WFLA-Fox News Radio..oh, before rob starts bitching that he can't hear 590....LOOK AT THE MAP !! Poledo is right about FWB area and towers...the 2 500 ft towers in downtown FWB are lucky to be there....there will never be a tall tower in Okaloosa county except maybe next to the Ala line. I think if you asked the general public in Okaloosa county if they would rather have a 1000 ft tower or Eglin AFB/Hurlburt Field, it would be a "no brainer". Rob, there are PLENTY of places for you to listen to the freaks on George Norrey's (sp?) show...many AM clears carry it.

You need one local host to get those bar dollars.

CCENG --- I have been up to the old WWSF tower site northwest (?) of Crestview in the Black Forest. I can't
remember the roads, little towns, etc. 12 years later, but was that actually in Okaloosa County? Again,
I can't remember the tower height, but it was pretty substantial and had pretty white lights that flashed
real bright at night (for Rob.) Where was/is it and what do you remember about HAAT, etc? I think you've
been there before. I only was there four or five times, and that was enough. Those thick pine trees loved to
mess with that signal. Any memories? Don't tell me it was love at first sight, but for you it may have been.

It's a Sports station still, sort of , that could sort of penetrate W PCB. (FYI 98.1 WTKE now --- FM)
Who is the owner this week? I'll hush.

the tower you are talking about tibbs is located about 150 feet inside FL....the place is called Escambia Farms....but it is in Okaloosa County. I think Ron Hale has 98.1 but after all the musical chairs and litigation over there I am not 100% sure. Oh...Rob, those white blinky things are called strobe lights in case you are wondering what tibbs was talking about. In my opinion PC is too small (or has tooooo many radio stations) to support a true sports station. There are more city grade signals in Panama City than most top 25 markets ;) oh, one more thing, I am Jennifer's laptop in the living room watching tv so that is why it says "jennywoo"

CCENG

Thanks "Jenny" All I know is it was a 24-pack round trip to there. 6 up, two people. 6 back, two people.
Cokes, of course. Took half a damn day for all the pit stops (is that two words?) Someone up
there in a 'house' nearby watched those things called strobes and called us when one burnt out.
The call letters were WXCR at the time. My mistake on the last post. (Old age) They were
WWSF before and after. Now they are still WTKE and it's probably still a failing waste of electricity.

I wonder how the old tower strobes are...Rob, according to Mapquest...Escambia Farms is
six weeks, three days and eleven hours by donkey...if you want to go see the tower. AND
don't, don't call Eglin and say you saw three UFO's up there. That's already been tried.
And it wasn't easy keeping a straight face while explaining why a radio tower could possibly
look like a UFO to some whacked government official with nothing better to do than wait on his
retirement. I'm being serious. But, don't call me Shirley...Jenny.

Here's a station with promise: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WDIZ&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

Again.. another station covering more SEA then people (land)
Why there not NON DIRECTIONAL is beyond me.

IF they apply for a 10KW (or even 5KW) CP permit and go non directional, I BET this station's signal could be heard from pensacola to the outer edges of the state capitol.

and note: I can hear the signal (though faint) but it's there.
I'm not a radio expert so quit bitching at me. Yes, my ideas are weird but hey..that's me!

at my old home, WSYR 570 is a good example of a 24hr 5KW signal. We were able to hear it up in northern ONTARIO! (along with the faint CW of that infamous RR code every minute.)

Panama City needs a stable, rock sold station that the people can depend on. Not this fly by night BS I've been hearing.

(NOTE: Radio Locater still has it listed as "TOURIST INFO" after me telling them they are a satellite fed "music of your life" station several times in their "update" section)

you can see the site on Google Earth...
search for WFBD TV DT Channel 48 (or click the Google Earth community icon)

What's the charge for more pounding on Rob? Better laughs than any I've had lately, please do continue! Tibbs, I'll give you my wage on Jenny's future station. Hey, that's an idea! Jenny you could hire and dress Rob as a court jester! Station mascot and all, give kids at remotes rotten tomatoes and stuff.

Agreed, Stewy.

Rob is dazzling us all with his keen insight and unheralded knowledge of the radio industry. Forget CCENG, only the R-O-B knows what he's talking about. ::)

Rob, seriously, have you ever studied basic radio engineering? Oh, wait....no.

Gheesh...

(should I even try?)
the reason WDIZ 'covers more water then land' is because AM signal is conductive in the water...even if they were directional (its not that easy as it looks, i found out that stations fall into tiny little areas that arent in other stations A, B, or C signal ranges)...it would require other AM stations to update their licenses, etc, etc. Charlie cant just flip a switch and send it to robs house, plus, you are in 'okalissa' county, which ISN'T PANAMA CITY.

how old are you Rob?

Well, now we know you're a snowbird who's just taking a really long vacation. This actually explains things... with the exception of the info on WSYR (which I checked, actually IS 5kw 24 hours, though directional), maybe you've been confusing FCC policies with your native CRTC rules?

95.9 is ok outside of the garbage they play at night on the weekends, and I'm really digging 93.5 - as long as CCENG has the transmitter turned on (sorry!). Too bad you live so far up the coast- move over to (relative) civilization in Panama City and you might be able to pick up some of the Panama City stations.

I don't think they're music of your life- I'm familiar with that format and it's not quite the same... almost sounds like "AM Only" from Westwood One...

the new guy nailed it...on 590 we use Westwood One "adult standards"...we did have abc "stardust" pre fox sports....but that has been several years ago....as far as 93.5 is concerned....what the hell are you talking about "new guy"? 93.5 hasn't been off since we had to reduce power for the Coast Guard...that has been about a month ago.

As far as rob bashing is concerned....I wish I had some help....it makes me look bad to be the only one on the list that corrects all the crap that rob puts out....tibbs has been of some help in this matter....before I forget it, this is CCENG on Jenny's laptop...watching a really good comedy routine by Dennis Miller on HBO...

Getting back to the original question...
If sports/talk failed on Panama City's best AM signal, then it won't ever work on AM?
There are plenty of FM stations in PCB that could program sports, but it's probably not going to happen?

Y'all can pick on some sports stations from the Tampa Bay area and most of the market can get WTKE, right?

Charlie,Is 105.5 in Apalachicola still doing the Westwood One ault standards format too?3 fms,and a 4th allocated in Franklin County, talk about a tough small market .
