Does Paul Daugherty hate Cincinnati???

Maybe its only me, but does Paul Daugherty (Doc as many love to call him) seem to really hate Cincinnati???

As a former sports media guy myself, I get how covering sports on a daily basis REALLY does suck the fun out of what drew you there (and having a family) in the first place, but I'm really surprised Doc's constant derision of local sports fans doesn't draw more fire from fans in the area.

To me, at least, it's obvious Doc doesn't really have a passionate interest in sports, but his constant negativity toward Cincinnati and its fans (he all but calls you "local yokels" on a daily basis in his blogs, columns, and radio show) really surprises me that you tolerate it...

Just curious if anyone else shares these thoughts or has any insight...
 
I don't think he hates the town, but you've got to admit with this year's Reds & Bengals
it's frustrating for the fan, plus the city is a joke. Look what they've done between the
2 stadiums, Nothing, In Louisville you've got Hard Rock Cafe and 4th Street Live. That should of
been Cincinnati, maybe the tax money from that could helped the city get a new jail.
Cinci does have some good things, Montgomery Ribs, Skyline Chili, 700 WLW, and WGRR.

I'm with you PRO, Cincinnati sports and lack of progress does suck--I personally can't stand it here (I'm only here for the job), but then again I don't have a forum for voicing my displeasure on a daily basis.

Again, just surprised people in Cincinnati tolerate it from "one of your own"--which seems to go a long way in this town. For instance, Marty Brennaman literally HATES all Red's fans and couldn't be more rude and nasty to fans, but the town appears to absolutely adore him.

I don't get it, but then again, I not gettin' Cincinnati either.

So find a new job and leave. There are plenty of people on and off of this board who love this city and don't care to hear from people like you who aren't from here, don't want to be here but find yourself "stuck" here. Too bad for you. And us.

And before you light into me for being rude... you opened yourself up to criticism when you told us you "personally can't stand it here".
 
No offense, dude, I'm really trying to put this place behind me--despite offers, its hard to replace the kind of job I have. Believe it or not, I actually chose Cincinnati thinking it was a cool place when I interviewed (it truly is my fault). However, I find very insular and negative. (When i moved here and told people where I was from, their typical response was a perplexed, "Why would you move here?--which used to crack my wife and I up until we realized "why" ourselves)

However, your very response to my post speaks to my point. To me, its very obvious that Paul Daugherty doesn't like it very much here either based on his comments, blogs, and columns. He's certainly not a sports fan anymore (can anyone really disagree with this?), but why does the Cincinnati sports fan not sniff out that he doesn't like it here either and get the kind of response I just got???

As for Brennaman, he's like alot of play-by-play guys who just sort of grow on the populace after being here for so long. Plus, his voice is associated with the '70's glory years--so I get it, but gosh, he doesn't even try to pretend he likes the fans...
 
I don't think he hates Cincinnati or its teams or fans. But he's not very cheery to listen to and seems depressed.

I think he's depressed that he has what could be great gigs (paper and radio) but realizes they're not because both the Reds and Bengals suck and any buzz that occasionally arises concerning their playing abilities are all too quickly deflated.
 
NewToTheNasti: What part of town do you live in?

I've lived in lots of places myself (25 markets at last count) and there are few I like better than Cincinnati. But I have always been a West Sider, and my mom's family is from Dayton. I tend to avoid snob country. If you live in Mason or the east side burbs, I can see where you'd have that impression. But not everyone here is like that. Big difference on the west side.
 
Bates--Concerning your comments about Marty Brennaman; I dont know where you get the idea he hates all Reds' fans...I have met him many times and he has always been cordial and accomodating to me and other fans during Reds functions. You may get that idea from his reaction to some of the idiots who call in during rain delays and Hot Stove League shows.

I think its just his "schtick"..obnoxious at times and quite often mono-tone but he has the gig and we dont.
its a good thing to have your emotions stirred by listening. Im glad he's not a "HOMER"
Now, Tracy Jones just flat out SUX. He's moved on now and thats a good thing.
 
Ironically, I really like Tracy Jones. Will he not be back on WLS next season???

BTW, what other line of work in Tracy Jones in???

As for Daugherty having a "gig and we dont", like a former star-athlete, he simply leveraged his position at the Enquirer for his spot. No Enquirer, no "Doc" on radio--it would never happen based on talent.

And really, who actually listens to the radio after 6pm anyway (or would even want to work nights :)
