Does Sam Malone in 2005 = W&J in 2007

***Disclaimer- This is not a wish list item or an endorsement or a slam against anyone... but it is an interesting question, IMHO.***

Does anyone think CC may be doing the same thing with the current Walton and Johnson situation that they did in 2005 with Roula and Ryan and Sam Malone?

If memory serves me, Sam was originally only supposed to be on KTRH and not back on FM. I don't know the specifics of that situation (or this one) and what parallels (if any) there are in the case of W&J going to KPRC, but I wonder if it is deja vu all over again?

Any thoughts?

This is a very interesting point. It is of my small opinion that the Sam situation (re: KTRH move) was to kind of duck under some competitive clauses although he sat it out for 6 months. Walton and Johnson are not really a music/format-specific kind of show. Just becuase they were on a rock station does not mean their listeners prefer the music. Actually, you would be amazed on the diversity of their audience. So my two cents are they will stick to KPRC becuase CC doesn't really need to rock the boat on the other stations.

I read on another thread that Eddy Martini interviewed and was responsible for bringing them on board. Supposedly there are financial syndication issues beneficial to Martini and his close relationship to W&J. It was distressing to see that. If that is true, then he is do doubt undermining Michael Berry as PD. W&J and KPRC are the most unlikely match. I believe W&J will drive more listeners away from KPRC than they care to drive away. If they drive off enough listeners it will affect their ratings later into the day, maybe even to PM Drive. That relationship between Martini and W&J is a better explanation of why they are there. Personally I think Berry's lineup, other than W&J has some potential for success, but the W&J in AM Drive just doesn't make sense with KPRC's current listener base.

The demographics don't add up. KPRC's average listener is well over 40. What is the age of W&J's audience? 12-24? I believe they will run off more loyal KPRC listeners than have ever been run off of any station due to a format change. I wish them luck, but I see a big train wreck for KPRC around the bend. Good luck Berry.

I beg to differ. I'm 31 and my dad is 56. Both of us listen on a regular basis.

Well, if you average you and your Dad's age you get 43.5. I said the average age is over 40. I stand by my statement.

If you're talking about the average KPRC listener, then I stand by my statement. If you're talking about the average W&J listener, then all I would say is........Geeeeez. Honestly, I don't know anyone that listens to W&J. In fact most people I know don't even know they exist and people that remember them from their KLOL days thought they were horrible. I'm just clarifying my last post.

Guess our average of 43.5 fits into your suggestion of KPRC's average age of over 40. ???

that demo doesn't know anything about AM radio.

Hey, if you're 31 and listening to AM talk pat yourself on the back. A sign of high intelligence.

Hell, I've been listening to them since I was 26.

Now I'm 35, household income over 100K and I've used several of their show sponsors for different services.

Their politics aren't too far to the right, or the left, just like mine. It's an entertaining show for me, more so than any other show in Houston. I even listen to them at work, then promptly turn the station when the show is over because I'm not a big fan of classic rock.

With the new line up on 950, I can see listening to a few of the shows throughout the day. Phil Hendrie has always been one of my favs though.
