Does WHDH care about its syndicated programming?

If you'll notice, most of the syndicated programming that airs on WHDH is very cheesy and low-budget. They have Regis & Kelly at 9 am, maybe that's not so cheesy. But they have the Doctors at 2 pm, and 2 episodes of Family Feud at 3 pm. Today, they broke into news about the boy in the balloon, I think it was during the 3 pm hour, pre-empting Family Feud. Most stations wouldn't break in to cover something like this, since it isn't even local news. So, from what it looks like, I don't think WHDH really cares about anything BUT News.

When you consider WHDH had originally intended to pre-empt Jay Leno's new show with another newscast, that last sentence couldn't be further from the truth!

Considering the subject matter, most stations wouldn't even carry stories like this on their usual newscasts, until after the weather segment.

Considering Jay's ratings, WHDH is probably kicking themselves for not getting even tougher with NBC.

The fact that a major network station is carrying 2 episides of Family Feud say to me that they don't care what syndicated programming they air.

WHDH broke into the Today Show this morning to announce an eight-minute power failure affecting part of Logan Airport, one hour after it happened, calling it "BREAKING NEWS"!

Ugh. Plus it interrupted important NBC coverage of Balloon Boy!

What are they supposed to air? More soaps?

Bottom line. Can they sell Family Fued? If the answer is yes, then it's not so crappy.

The Doctors is a pretty popular syndicated show, and seems to sell in markets i've seen it airing.

Not as good as the original one which ran on NBC from 1963 to 1981, sponsored (and owned for a time) by Colgate-Palmolive (with Madge the hand-lady in those ads).

That's Madge the Manicurist. Madge the hand-lady sounds like a double entendre.

Family Feud is the one show I am glad the station has stuck with over the past 4 years. The only two hour block I really look foward to on HDH is from 3 to 5 when they air that hour of Feud followed by an hour of News.
