Does WPAT FM Need to Change?

I don't know how well a Spanish FM talker would do, probably worse than Amor...but if SBS wanted to change format and keep to their brand, maybe this route?

And even that, I don't know how well it would do since a Spanish talk station, had never been done before in NYC (on the FM).

Old demos, expensive.

AC/pop, well done, is the broadest in appeal across nationalities of any possible format. Currently, thhe #1 and #2 Spanish language stations in Miami are pop and AC hybrids.

Okay, that's what I thought.

Thank you.

I figure WPAT would have stuff like José Feliciano, Marco Antonio Solís and the like. Estereotempo, SBS's AC station in Puerto Rico plays their old "baladas" often.
Estereotempo is a 70's gold station that pretty much plays the songs that were hits on 11-Q in that decade. It does not do all that well, and leans old demographically.

While Fidelity doesn't lean that much to old music, Estereotempo still plays a lot of the music WFID plays, you know, the new hits and hits from the nineties.

In fact, I checked the song log for Estereotempo, and I found only one song by José José. The rest is Kany García, Tito el Bambino, Thalía, Juanes, Ednita, Camila, and Juan Luis Guerra, stuff that is a regular part of Fidelity's playlist.

The log for WPAT says it is playing "Waka Waka" by Shakira right now. They did have one Charlie Zaa song, but they played Luis Fonsi and Julieta Venegas, too.

18 different José José songs in the last week, with a total of about 40 spins... one every 4 hours. And Pandora, El Puma, Braulio, Emmanuel, Camilo Sesto, Montaner, 70's Roberto Carlos songs, etc. All we are missing is Danny Rivera and Yolandita. Very gold based.

Fidelity has a much younger song age when we run an era map.

That's why Fidelity beats Estereotempo more than 2 to 1 in 18-34 and is ahead by about 35% in 25-54. Only in 35-64 does Estereotempo get a bit closer to Fidelity.

Not to mention that Fidelity has excellent programming. Gozando en La Mañana is hilarious!

But I digress. There isn't another station that has the music mix WPAT (or WFID, for that matter) has in New York. In such a diverse market as NYC, you'd think this format would do better.
