Does XLO have a million dollars?

I heard a promo on XLO for a million dollar giveaway & it almost sounded like the kind of contest that there's a good chance no one will win. I'm not sure I've ever heard anything like that before, but never have & probably never will enter a radio station contest so I can't really say for sure. I checked the website & you qualify by being the right caller, in which case you do win $100 cash & some $100 dine-out certificate. Then if your birthday matches the one in the envelope you win the million. Probably no worse odds than winning powerball. In fact, the odds are probably better. It just struck me as odd that a station would run a contest in which the grand prize may never actually be given away. Has anyone else ever heard of one? It's not a national contest either so before anyone jumps all over CC, they do give the money away.

Hot AC outlet WTIC-FM 96.5 ("96.5-TIC") of Hartford, CT has done this kind of contest before. Say, what are the chances of February 24, 1971 coming out? (How many years are they using for a range anyway?)

P.S. Shouldn't this be on the Boston board?

Yes I saw on the website the insurer is American Hole'N One. So that's how it works. I was hoping the station had the money so if no one wins they can use it to staff The Pike. Still, it's a good way to generate excitement. I also saw you have to go through a voice analysis if you win to verify the person who called in is the same as the one who claims the grand prize. As far as belonging on the Boston Board, Worcester posts seem to get split up depending on the location of who's posting.

haha this could go on MA. CT. RI. and Northern New England. Their signal is ridiculous.

If they have a million dollars they'd better be ready to loan PRO-FM for $25,000 for the Fugitive giveaway.

The other "catch" to contests such as this, is that they're generally spread out among ALL CC stations... just made to sound like they're "local". Check the contest rules.

I haven't heard it but it doesn't have to be spread out.WXLO is a Citadel station. This does not sound national but I would bet the wording is such that one person"could"win a million and not one person"will"win.

WXLO does have a fantastic signal as the guy in the radio said. They promote themselves as a Central New England station although I would be more inclined to call them Central Massachusetts. This is probably whey they have always been able to attract good people.

Then why do I struggle to get them on my Sony Walkman while in Worcester or nearby along I-90 between Exits 9 (Sturbridge) and 11 (Millbury)? They are supposed to be in the Worcester market, right?

their tower isnt in worcester if my memory serves me right. but i can hear them CLEAR in concord, nh, and CLEAR in southeast, ma. they have a very vast signal.

Not as far south as that...but most of 24 is clear.

And Charlie should know about this. He got one of these "insurance things" to give away a Million dollars on his station in Connecticut back in 2001, unfortuantly he killed off the station before the contest finished. I remember he was running promos something similar to "Win a Million Dollars from Blaze 990. Tune into the Nikki Nova Moring Show Weekdays from 6AM-10AM for more information."

...That would be Wachusett Mountain in the way.

That would be wrong. Their transmitter is in the Leominster State Forest. Wachusett Mountain is to the west of the transmitter site, and does not block their signal to the south.
