Does your local Jack FM play too much classic rock?

I would like to know if the Jack FMs are similar or different in programming. Here in San Antonio, it seems like 102.7 Jack FM has a very heavy lean on classic rock. The annoything about that is that there are already 2 classic rock stations in the San Antonio area. So currently, the station is not doing well right now.

I find the same problem in my neck of the woods where the Jack FM seems to have strayed away from the classic hit sound, and is now leaning more toward classic rock.

I think the hidden agenda is to not make it very clear to the competition who Jack would like to compete with.

In Kansas City, KCJK had a great mix when they were owned by Susquehanna. Now that Cumulus owns them, they sound very similar to sister stations KCFX (classic rock) and KCMO (classic hits). Basically they have three stations overlapping 50% of their music.

That's the same situation in Indy. There are too many "classic" stations. Not enough mainstream stations appealing to 25-54.

thats a good thing...classic rock has all the heavier stuff along with the slower...when classic hits has tgoo much slow and not enough heavy

Jack FM in New York plays a lot of classic rock, but their numbers seem to have gotten more respectable. Many of the Jack's lost that "oh wow" factor, but some of them still sound good and some still occassionally touch songs that have been sitting in the vaults for years.

For the few times I was in the van with my sister, WJMK Chicago leans more on 80's, and not Classic Rock. But even so, the ratings aren't even close to the old format. Emmis's Loop (WLUP 97.9) has been slightly higher, and Bonneville's Drive (WDRV 97.1/WWDV 96.9) gets even higher ratings, sometimes being close to the ratings of sister station WTMX (modern ac station)

Of course they play a lot of classic rock. Jack/Mike/Samantha et. al. are nothing but the "new" classic rock format with an unusual paint job.

Actually, Jack-Chicago's 25-54 share/rank is about the same as the old Oldies station on that frequency, which was usually in the 10 to 15th rank range (Jack is now #13; WZZN, which now plays Oldies, is #21).

A properly targeted Variety Hits type station will lean somewhat classic rock/hits.
