Don Barrett (LARadio.com)

Don announced on Facebook this (Saturday, 8/12) afternoon that he has advanced liver cancer. He'll be shutting down LARadio.com as he focuses on what comes next.

I was blessed to communicate with Don and share a bite with him once over---wow---close to 30 years. There are others who have known him 50 or more. A true friend and champion of Los Angeles radio. He's in our prayers here.

Most unfortunate, best wishes. LA Radio has never had a more devoted supporter.

I hope there is a process to archive his site, it is too valuable to let go by. I think he struck a deal with David E. at some point to do so at his site?

No, we have not had that conversation. I am, however, open to the possibility of archiving it... but at this difficult time I do not want to bother Mr. Barrett.

Which reminds me, I need to talk to you about archiving NERW at some point as things wind down. There's almost 30 years of content spread out across several sites and old Usenet posts.
Yes!

I'd love to archive NERW. We can discuss logistics, including giving you password access to the site so you can create a dedicated section that preserves the look and feel of NERW.

Are you going to NAB in October at the Javits Center in New York? I'm on a panel Thursday morning and will be wandering around all day Wednesday and also most of Thursday. We can get coffee or a much-missed New York bagel if you are going.

Anyone else here going to NAB?

It's not on my agenda this year. I've been in past years and haven't really found it to be worth the expense - lots of TV stuff and just a little bit of radio.

Other than that message on LARadio.com, I'm not seeing much additional confirmation. This article was on RAMP:

This was on RBR:

I can confirm Don Barrett passed away early this morning, he began hospice care last week. Take a look at his Facebook page for the many tributes, I aggregated some of the comments from various sites on my local radio blog.
