Don Day passes

I always hate to hear this kind of thing, however I'm confident that Don is right where he wants to be now. I know the girl who used to do news on KCLE back when Don was at country Gold Radio. She always talked about what an awesome person he was to work with. She said that you could always find him showing up for work a couple of hours early reading the bible before going on the air.

I had the opportunity to work with Don on many occassions and he was truely a professional. I was very saddened to hear about his passing. He has left his mark in DFW radio history by doing what he loved to do. He did it with grace, style, and without ever complaining. Don will greatly be missed. Here's to you Don! :D

The perfect way to remember Don is to get yourself some coleslaw. I'll be doing that this evening at dinner. Don was definitely crazy about his coleslaw

I grew up listening to Don doing "Good Morning Texas" due to the fact i got up early with my dad, who is a soon to be retired DPD officer. Hearing him cover Ag Reports and the occasional snow day closing were some of my earilest radio memories. Don, IMHO, was one of the last of his kind. A radio announcer who both had "the voice" and talent to back it up, which is sorely missing in this day of "corporate-ran" radio. Don, you'll be missed and I hope you get your shot to do a "Snow Day Closing List" for the Man Upstairs :)

Didn't Don do the all night show after Bill Mack left to go to KXOL? If I remember correctly he used to have "back porch chats" with Harold Taft almost every evening, after Harold did the weather at 10. I too remember him hosting the 5 to 6 AM show with the farm reports and commodities, which ended when they revamped the morning news format and Hal Jay started at 5 AM.

And then there was "the two Don's."

Great voice and truly an icon of WBAP.

And 15 seconds after hitting "post" I remembered it was Don Harris with Harold Taft and the host of the 5 to 6 AM show.

Next I'll learn to set the clock on my VCR.

wow! what a stunner....

A piece of my childhood is gone.

Don Day was indeed a part of many childhoods AND adulthoods in this area.

As a long time listener to WBAP, especially as a kid, i have fond memories from long ago.

He did afternoons for many years when WBAP still played country music.

His "Hello, Texas" noon time program was a great listen, too.

I especially remember Don doing a tribute to Harold Taft when Harlold passed in '91 or so.
He wrote a little diddy that started out.."have you heard the weather today?"

I also remember his sign off everyday:
"This is Don Day saying 'Hello, everybody!', 'cause i just hate to say goodbye."

A great broadcaster and a piece of my childhood.

Very sad to hear about Don. I posted an old WBAP ad on my site from 1982; show Hal, the two Dons, Sieg and others...www.knus99.com .

There goes another good one. I hate to hear it. After reading the thread, I think some of you have Don Day and Don Harris confused. Harris was the one who did the all night show after Bill Mack left. Eventually, Harris moved to the 9-12 noon slot, followed by Don Day from 12-3p.

And let us not forget the "Traveling Saturday Show" that was on location from 10-2 most weekends for quite some time. Don Day did most of them. That was his gig.

He was such a pro, nice guy and the sharpest dressed DJ I have ever seen. I NEVER saw him when he wasn't wearing slacks. Funny thing to remember, huh?

God Bless, Don-

i sure do remember the Traveling Road Show...

lots of memories stirred up by his passing..

Hope his family knows how much he meant to so many....
