DON GERONIMO RETIRING EARLY

AllAccess.com reports that Friday 4/11 will be Don Geronimo's last show on Westwood One and locally on KHTK (1140). He had originally announced that he'd leave "The Don & Mike Show" on May 31 and retire; the show has been on a "best-of" hiatus for two weeks. [EDIT]

I can't believe Westwood One is still going to carry that show sans Geronimo... talk about a trainwreck. Mike is a solid #2 but there's no way he'll come close to being as engaging as Don. The other thing to remember is Don was a PD too, so he knew how to always keep things moving along... I see Mike just wandering aimlessly talking about nothing for hours on end.

I miss Freda. :'( I used to listen all the time, and when she died the show (and Don) just kinda lost its spark along the way. Does anyone know why he's pushed his exit up?

Marc at "Potomac Confidential" {via washingtonpost.com} and
dcrtv.com both say the same thing, basically...
No reason why Don retired "early," save for his upcoming farewell show,
in which he may explain everything then; the latter source says:

"...But rumors surfaced early this week about Geronimo's early departure when
his spring "vacation" got mysteriously extended. Also, we're hearing that guy
talker (W)JFK may move up the start date on the Don and Mike replacement
afternoon show, featuring Geronimo's longtime partner, Mike O'Meara, from
its original June start date...

I agree; the show gradually lost its spark since Don's wife died...
