WORCESTER COUNTY- The wife of a radio DJ who is part of one of America's most popular syndicated radio talk shows was killed in a car crash on an oft-used road during the warmer months.
The Maryland State Police say 50-year-old Freda Wright-Sorce, wife of Don Geronimo, died when her car was hit on Route 90 at St. Martin's Neck Road Sunday afternoon.
The police say a driver swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid a ten car chain reaction crash, hitting Wright-Sorce's car coming the opposite direction.
Parts of Route 90 have a dividing barrier keeping head on collisions from happening. But Gene Cofiell Jr. of the Maryland Highway Administration said there was no barrier separating east and westbound 90 in that spot because it's part of an intersection.
"During the course of the day, there's about 300 vehicles that'll turn left off of Maryland 90 going to Saint Martin's Neck," Cofiell said. "There's several communities back there."
Geronimo is half of the radio cut-up team of "Don and Mike." His wife often called into the show and would be part of the discussion.
