Don LaFontaine

In his headlines email for tomorrow's LA Radio web page Don Barrett is reporting the death of Movie Trailer/VO Talent Don LaFontaine on Monday afternoon (9/1) End of an era...

Wow. I had heard recently that he was not doing well.
I haven't heard any recent VO work from him. He must not have been well for quite some time. For those who may not know if him, he was most recently featured in a GEICO Insurance TV commercial as a "Real, paid celebrity."
He will be missed.

Besides the GEICO commercial, here in NY the Lotto has a commercial running where Don and Ed McMahon and "Jeopardy" announcer Johnny Gilbert are having coffee at a diner and get blown away by the Lotto guy announcing this week's drawing payout. Those two spots coupled with the video on Dan O'Day's blog http://www.danoday.blogspot.com/
Don sounds like he had much fun.

"In a land where all the big voices go Don LaFontaine single-handedly rules with a smile..."

CHR jocks (I recall Johnny Dee when he was still in Cleveland at WRQC) using his classic horror trailer snippets edited together...
"...beaten...stabbed...bludgeoned...dismembered...ripped...chainsawed...pistolwhipped...slashed...etc,etc,etc...
...anybody got a copy of that??? Great memories! Way too young!!! Rest In Peace, Don. :-X
