Don Weeks Replacement(s) Announced

The announcement was made on the air after the 8am newscast. Uncle Don's last day is Christmas Eve. Then on January 3rd it's Chuck Custer and Kelly Lynch. I'm not overwhelmed by Chuck Custer but Kelly Lynch could make it an interesting listen.

Anyone else think Kiss-FM is next to flip? Their ratings are flunking because of both Fly and Jamz's dominance in the market, and I think it would've been better to flip Kiss instead of Channel. But, the thing is, what would Kiss flip to, country? I just can't see three country stations in the Albany market. =/

I would like to see a Dance format on there. Playing Classic dance from the 70s on up to now like KTU used to do.

It's the WGY morning news with 2 news people Kelly Lynch and Chuck Custer. They are not radio personalities! Don't expect anything more

If this week is any indication, the new show sounds like the same old antiquated format "Uncle" Don has used for the past few years.

For years now, WGY's morning show has been mostly news with Don Weeks doing some interviews(that Chuck and Kelly can do a good job on) and throwing in a few comments. So there's really not that much to replace as far as content. I'm sorry but Don has recently not been that funny to me. At least Joe Gallagher makes me laugh. I don't think there will be a major hit to the ratings because basically listeners turn on WGY in the morning for news, weather and traffic.

Joe Gallagher does not make me laugh, he makes me turn the radio off. This stupid handing over the sports report from Joe Gallagher to Joe Gallagher going from a microphone to a telephone handset is just not funny, and its rediculous. We now have a combined total of 56,000 watts of foolishness on saturday morning.

I still prefer Joe to Don when I'm awake to listen. For years Don was a very funny guy as a TV weatherman and music host when he had real time to do his schtick. But since Don's role was diminished he just sounds forced. As far as Chuck and Kelly, so far I'm not too impressed with them as personalities but maybe they'll get better. Again, for WGY weekday mornings, it's about the news.

I would say give Chuck & Kelly some time to adjust. Long term, I don't know whether or not it will work out or not. But the statement made that it is about the news is correct. Even though GY has cut back on its new staff, everyone in local radio else has, too. So they by default have been able to be probably the best radio news source in the area.

Amen to that brother. I think the only reason why WGY has Joe Gallagher on weekends in that they can't find anyone else will to work that time slot. His horrible singing of the same old lame song is a big turnoff. His schick with his phony sidekick Marge (which he did in his first stint with WGY as well) was not at all funny. The guy was not funny at all and has no talent.

If WGY wanted to replace Joe Gallagher I'm sure they would have no problem finding hundreds of eager candidates regardless of the hour. This is a a 50,000 watt heritage radio torch. While I don't find everything he does funny(including the Marge character) you can't argue with success.

Joe Gallagher has been in broadcasting for over 35 years. He must have at least *some* talent. I like his show, always have. The humor is light and unique in the market, and apparently appreciated as his numbers are pretty respectable.

As for finding someone to work that timeslot (an idiotic assumption) - remember who we're talking about here. Clear Channel could just pipe in any no-name guy from some place halfway across the country with no local value whatsoever, like more than half of the programming they have now (especially GY's weekend lineup). Don't like Joe? Don't listen. Simple as that.

Well AM on FM, I do not tune in to listen to Joe. I tune in a little early when waiting for the news. I really wonder if GY cares what the saturday and sunday ratings are? I don't think any stations ratings set the world on fire in that time slot. I don't care to listen to the same silliness over and over again.

Don Weeks has been out now for 7 working days. He was originallly decribed as having a flu like illness. It is not known now when he will be back. Chuck and Kelly have gotten a pretty good early start for the show they will officially take over on 1/3/11.
