Donald Sutherland, Versatile Star of ‘M*A*S*H,’ ‘Ordinary People’ and ‘The Hunger Games,’ Dies at 88​

His celebrated career also included turns in 'The Dirty Dozen,' 'Klute,' 'Don't Look Now,' 'Animal House' and 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

 
I had a chance to interview him once. It was at a media gang bang, like a red carpet. I found him to be a rather imposing kind of guy. He listened to the questions and reacted directly. I had hoped he would have been more like some of the characters he played. But he was pretty droll and serious. He didn't seem to enjoy the attention, as some do.
 
In addition to his extensive movie and television work, Donald Sutherland also made it onto MTV in the mid-1980s as he portrayed psychiatrist and philosopher Wilhelm Reich in the music video of Kate Bush’s Cloudbusting.

 
Sutherland was an actor with extraordinary talent. His ability to create memorable characters was mesmerizing. No matter how big or small the role, he always elevated the movie (His fire bug character in BACK DRAFT is just one example). He even played a character named Homer Simpson (not the cartoon guy) in "Day of The Locust". That film focused on the dark side of Hollywood (The people who didn't get famous). Sutherland was brilliant at the craft of acting...
