DONNA SUMMER R.I.P.

Me either. And I thought she lived in Nashville. I guess she could have a place there and in
Florida (or family in Florida).

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN :'( .

Did she ever have any TV specials? I know most artists of that era, Olivia Newton-John, Carpenters had specials on ABC. Of course Helen Reddy was a regular host of the "Midnight Special"

Yes, she had one on ABC in 1979 (she had her daughter Mimi in the special). And she guest hosted "Midnight Special" in 1978 when she promoting "Thank God It's Friday," and was Dick Clark's guest co-host on "American Bandstand" in 1979. As for acting, she played Steve Urkel's "Aunt Loona from Altoona" on "Family Matters" twice, and at one point came close to doing a television sitcom but nothing came from it.

Donna, you'll always be the Queen. She'll be missed.

^The character on "Family Matters" was called "Aunt Oona from Altoona" actually.

RIP 70's legend! You'll always remember us for that Last Dance and listening On The Radio. :'(

I think it is important to remember that while Donna gained fame during the disco era, she was not negatively viewed among those who had a distaste for this era. She somehow transcended this negativity, and was one of the few that were viewed as one of the good artists that came out of the era. RIP, Donna.

I didn't care for Summer's version of "MacArthur Park", but "Last Dance", "Hot Stuff", "On the Radio", and "She Works Hard for the Money" resonate well to me, helping define my HS and college eras.

OTOH my father confused Donna Summer with another disco diva. :) We were having dinner at a restaurant the night of my HS graduation rehearsal (which took place that afternoon) in 1979 and on the muzak speakers we heard "I Will Survive". My dad said "Is that Donna Summers?" ( Yes, he said "Summers", not "Summer".) I said "No, that's Gloria Gaynor." ;D

RIP Donna (and Dad).

This was pretty much all I know her from because disco was before my time.

I know that every year many celebrities died, but this year is creeping closer to rival that of 2009 imo. I mean for celebrities that I've heard of or seen before.

It is my understanding that she and her family still owned property here, specifically in Brentwood/Williamson County. Her last public appearance here (that I am aware of) was at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in 2006, with an appearance with the symphony orchestra not long after that.

It was my understanding that she/her family had lived here since the '90s.

According to an interview with Summer, your father was not alone; it was a very common mistake.

No young male who came of age in the 1970's could ever forget "Love to Love You Baby".

For what it's worth, Donna, yours blew Meg Ryan's away! :)

You left us too soon. RIP.

Let's face it: MacArthur Park was just a strange song.

That said, Donna Summer was the Queen of Pop back in the day. The amazing thing is how many songs she did. When I heard the report of her death, I immediately thought of "Last Dance", "On the Radio", and "Dim All The Lights". Then, I looked at the long list of songs that she sang. OMG!! The amazing thing is that she continued to sing hits over the decades.

Donna, thanks for all the memories! We will miss you!

So true. And these things come in threes. First Whitney, then Donna, who's next?

It's been three months since Whitney died. How long do we leave the "window of opportunity" open, waiting for the third one to die? It hasn't been three years since Michael Jackson's death just yet. Maybe Michael was the first of these three? ::) This "death comes in threes" b.s. is so absurd. ::)

Totally agreed. When we see deaths occur closely together, it means very little. The only thing it means is that the population grew at a certain time, (1945-1964), so logically deaths from this era will grow at a certain time, like now.
