DONNY OSMOND TO 'PLJ???

Note the date on the tweet. He was doing a satellite tour from Dancing With the Stars.

That's not to preclude him from perhaps taking his new syndicated show to PLJ. However, I don't think the music in his show will be a good match for this station. Then again, no format is forever.

Oh no! Not again! Aaaahhhhh!!!! Donny Osmond is coming to PLJ? WTF???? Donny Osmond has been with the Osmond Brothers back in the 70's, but he is the second coming of the late Michael Jackson along with the Jackson 5 where Michael had a bunch of hits with the group as well as a solo artist. There goes Donny minding his own business. He had a TV variety show with Marie back in the late 70's, a Hawaiian Punch commercial in the 80's and then a talk show in the 90's, and finally with "Dancing With the Stars". Did he ever done a radio show before? What were they thinking?

I remember Isaac Hayes did a morning show on "Kiss-FM" back in the late 90's and early 2000's but it was a defend morning show, Mickey Dolenz had a morning show on CBS-FM back in late 2004 right before the "Jack" flip, and then David Lee Roth and Whoopi Goldberg and Ryan Seacrest from "American Idol". But Donny Osmond? Come on!

Link to Donny's website which has links on the homepage to his radio show info & affiliates: http://www.donny.com/

The show deuted on Monday 1/18/10. The major cities signed up so far include San Francisco, Denver, Atlanta, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Indianapolis, San Antonio, Richmond, Norfolk & Seattle.

*scoffs* I checked the site. It's an FM Radio station in Keene, New Hampshire. It can not be picked up in Boston. I've been to Keene. You can't get any of the Boston FMers in Keene. Nice try.
If I checked the other cities/stations, I'm sure I'd find similar situations where rimshots are claimed to reach the "big cities". Such is the publicity machine when a new syndicated show rolls out.

More local talent out of work for a syndicated "celebrity". Ugh. It's bad enough we have Delilah and Seacrest...

Wow, this ranks right up there with Air America signing up with a station in Stroudsburg, PA and anointing it as their "Philadelphia affiliate..."

There is no Indianapolis, San Fransisco, Atlanta, Chicago, or Detroit affiliate either, by the definition of MarcB.

So let's review: the show is either not cleared at all in the top 20 markets, or is on a signal

Check out in particular the Denver and Atlanta affilates. The Denver station is a class C (graveyard) AM closer to the New Mexico border than to Denver. The Atlanta station is a class A FM derated to 370 watts located in the tri-state area between TN, GA, and SC. There's no way in heck either of these stations is being heard in the metro areas of their markets.

So basically they have no major markets carrying a national show. I wonder how they expect to sell advertising. This is a company that appears to be powerless to get its owned & operated stations to carry its own internally produced programming. That's an easy way to go bankrupt. Oops, they already did.

Lots of Citadel stations have already dropped Imus, or run him in a graveyard spot. They just blew up their 24/7 programming division in Dallas, and have lost a bunch of affiliates because of that. They just killed a relationship with the cable channel GAC because they couldn't get any of their stations to carry the show. I keep hearing how people are angry that "corporate" is forcing stuff down their throats, but meanwhile corporate keeps launching new shows, and can't get them cleared on their own stations. Perhaps the first round of bankruptcy wasn't enough.

Their listed Albany, NY station is a Graveyarder in Pittsfield, Ma on 1340, nice trick considering theirs someone on 1330 in Troy. And another reason 97.7 WSNI in Keene doesn't work for Boston (and I thank my friends on the Boston Board for reminding me on this one), there's a 97.7 WKAF in the town of Brockton, Mass which serves the Boston market as a repeater for WAAD.
