He resurfaces as the voice-tracked afternoon drive guy at CKEY. What will happen to Keith Kelly?

Well I must say I knew it was only a matter of time before Universal added Donny Walker to make Wild101... I mean Z101 sound even more like Kiss. I cant say I am sad to see Keith Kelly go though.

So when Wease gets the option of a lower salary or hit the road will he migrate north of the border to join what will eventually be the rest of his friends from Kiss ?

AT least At Z101 You dont Get Fired ramdomly Just like Donny Did at KISS with out Just Cause for the 17+ years he did work there for them, Lets not for get about that!!! How come there is no big thread about that? I guess everyone on this form loves Kiss so much (aaaa Geee (US slang Here)), God forbid they make a mistake.... I really wonder what the next book is gonna be like? and who really cares what's inside the black box anyway....
??? ???

Actually, there was a big thread about that.

I'm glad to hear that Donny is back on the air, but I'm not sure that adding another Kiss re-tread is going to make that much difference for Z Wild 1s.

As far as Donny being fired with "Just Cause", and a lack of loyalty to employees, what turnip truck did you fall off of yesterday? "Just Cause" was the fact that he was making PM drive money - and long-term PM drive money at that - but had been bumped to mid-days. He was also aging out of the target demo. Did you really think that he was going to retire from Kiss with a gold watch after 30 or 40 years on the air?

I don't think that even Janet & her Pickle will be able to pull off that trick.

In radio, "Just Cause" = Just 'cause you make too much money, you're fired!

C'mon, 42 year old guys can play the hits for 26 year olds! No?

Maybe they gave Mr. Harrison a few promo CD's to add to his collection when he walked out of 500 Corporate Parkway. As to fond farewells, witness Dan Neaverth and Harv Moor. "Thanks for the memories, buh-bye. Next!" Radio is such a collegial business.

And speaking of morning legends, Dan Neaverth was inducted to the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame, yet no mention of that on this august board. We really are slipping, aren't we. Must be the Summer doldrums.

Not to stick it to anyone, I think its kind of funny that if the backbone of Kiss (Universal) leave Kiss 98.5... don't you think the emulation might follow to who programmed the station? Not saying whos copying who, but Im saying whos copying who? The kiss Programming department just might wanna follow and add where experience may want to lead them to. Hence the question... who is copying whom?

I really think that if you are hip and sounding fun onair and have fun while entertaining the audience makes no matter what age you are. As long as the show prep is aimed for your targetted audience, you surely can prove to be entertaining.

(shaking head) Huh?

What Im meaning is because Universal was punted from Wkse, and picked up by Z101, don't you think the sound thats emulated (or presented) by Z101 programming is that of universal which sounds alot like WKSE. Another words, because Universal has the programming experience and everyone is saying that Z101 is a copy cat of WKSE, dont you really think the young programming department of WKSE is following in the footsteps of Z101? I just think maybe when Z adds a tune, Kiss follows suit right after. (seems the lately)Some peoples listening tendancy is to listen to the big guy first then to secondly tune into the smaller market stations, just because of the overall sound of everything. So a song noticed to be played on Wkse First and then tuning secondly to Z101 notices that Kiss is playing it first..........

As far as Donny Walker... sure he may be 42 years old, but doing the proper show prep and presenting it in a wicked manner by having fun with it, should in essance bridge the gap between young and old, shouldnt it?

Radio use to be all about the presenter, and whos presenting the content. Now it seems there could be a monkey behind the mic and it would be ok. With the turning up of college stations in a major radio market gives great exposure and experience to the "wet behind the ears person". Don't you think it degrades the professionals who do it from day to day as a living? I know I heard some pretty bad ones, but don't you think thats why colleges implimented closed circuit broadcasting to the school only. I dont know... just my thoughts (so many in one LOL)

sure Wild/Zed can add songs first. why? cause they have nothing to lose. they can add 20 songs a week if they want to say they play new music first. Kiss does lack jumping on new music right away, but it doesn't seem to hurt them.

Secondly, when is the programming dept young? Sue was the programmer before dave.

Universal needs to tap Doc Reno for some shift. He had KILLER ratings when he was at Kiss and the man knows how to do a show.

For the record, Donny is 39 not 42.
Well then, he's still a young man! But 39 still seems a bit out-of-the-demo or past one's prime for CHR or Churban. Better suited for Hot AC, such as Star. Interesting, just thought of this format-demo progression:

18-24: Active, rap, hip-hop, CHR
25-34: CHR, Hot AC, Alternative, Sports Talk
35-49: Hot AC, AC, AAA, News Talk
50-54: AC, Oldies based AC, Classic Rock, News Talk
55-64: Oldies Based AC, Oldies, Classic Rock, News Talk
65-70: Oldies, Standards, WBEN.... Chortle, Guffaw! OK... I'm kidding. How old are Zack and Beach? Then how about Florida, the Carolinas or Nicaragua? Bueno!

Considering how old the programming dept is over at kiss, Thats whats really needed to be replaced, But of course if they are copying DavE U so much, Might as well give him credit of programing TWO Radio Stations!!!

Doc i Believe is older then Donny and we cant have that can we!!!

It doesnt hurt them because it there are a play it safe radio station, but as of late they are jumping quicker, and it only gives more credit to Dave U and not Sue because shes totally copying him.

Play it safe = play the hits? For discussion, is the age old axiom, "what you don't play won't hurt you" valid in 2007?

but as of late they (ed., "Z") are jumping quicker, and it only gives more credit to Dave U and not Sue because shes totally copying him.
Sue's too busy doing her nails and buying stuff on eBay to notice what Dave or anybody else is doing.

Significance of Kiss vs. Zwild

While the arguement over Kiss vs. Zwild goes on, it looks like both of them are being crushed by 'BLK. Maybe it's time that they started looking past each other toward the real ratings leader.

I was going to post this (early) as soon as i heard it to be official..
since, as mentioned, it was no real shocker...but guess what:

-i actually forgot about it, and there was no real fan-fare after
it happened...he sounds the same, minus the energy of being
live, or wanting to be there.

if it didnt make it on this board, i would still be
wondering "when" not "IF" he was coming over...

-that is how much the new z101 makes it to my ears.
