Don't Believe Everything You Read.

I was surprised to see the return of ABC's "Fast Forward."

From what I read in the trade magazines, and other publications, I thought that ABC decided to drop this show because of mediocre ratings.

Guess one can’t believe what they read anymore because the same sources claimed that “The Good Wife” was also on the brink of being cancelled; yet it appears that show has been renewed for a second season.

So what other shows that were reported headed for the graveyard will return next season?

Most reputable coverage reported--accurately--that the ratings over the first half of the season for Flash Forward declined markedly, and that a long hiatus was likely to further hurt its overall performance. Regardless of the hiatus having been long planned, it still may be something that poses a challenge in reversing momentum.

Flash Forward was a show probably destined for a ratings decline from the start. I myself stuck with it for about 6 or so episodes before finally giving up. You knew nothing would be resolved until the big date of April 29th, and each show became a tedious game of cat and mouse with a seemingly endless supply of new characters to keep track of. It's a shame because the premise was good... maybe they should have made a 3 or 4 night miniseries instead. Whether it will draw a huge ratings spike for the finale remains to be seen. I probably won't watch, having lost interest long ago. At this point, who cares? Besides, it could very well just end as a cliffhanger for next season anyway.

Not sure about this because I never watched it, but I think ABC is doing the same thing with the V remake. That's supposed to be brought back, too, isn't it?

Yes, "V" returns at the end of the month, after "Lost" on Tuesdays.

The networks still haven't learned the lesson of "Jericho." A show with solid ratings that goes on hiatus, even a scheduled one, may never again post good numbers. Take a show away for too long, and people stop caring about it.

Heck, Lost took a big hit when it was on a long mid-season break, so it's nothing surprising. But sometimes the trend is heading that direction regardless--i.e., there's no guarantee the end results would be all that different.

Anything's possible, but in Jericho, Lost, Flash Forward and V, you have much more complex story lines, making getting "back" into them more difficult.

Two words: Samantha Who?
A very good show. So sorry it didn't last any longer than it did.

My ABC affiliate made a bad move with "FlashForward". Fortunately, I didn't know about the Saturday rerun and I had TiVo set to record it anyway. But the ABC station ran a movie instead, and I just watched the movie the My Network station was running, a movie I would have missed because of "FlashForward". Now, who knows when I'll have time to watch? Since it's two hours, it'll be hard to clear that much time so I probably won't get to it until after Thursday. At which time I'll be TiVoing anyway, so I'll watch that only after I watched the first one.

Maybe.

Smart move on the part of my affiliate. ::)

I thought I was through with this mess, but the digital channel hasn't been dependable since I got a new TV. On the old TV, I wouldn't have given it a second thought. I think I finally got the converter box positioned right, though. But I'm not ready to take chances. As to why I didn't get a new digital TV, I would still need the box for a VCR, and I'd have to hook the VCR up to the TV. This is a combination TV/VCR which isn't brand new, but moving the converter box in the first palce has messed me up.

They Are Hyping The Heck Out Of The Return Of Glee ... I Think It Will Be Fine.

Fox hyping something? That's so uncharacteristic of them. It would be like them hyping the fact they have the next Super Bowl.

Oh wait ...never mind!

You mean like their "news" programs featuring an "American Idol" review?

Most would not call that "news". More still would not call it "entertainment".
