WOW! What a day of changes at Cumulus in Poughkeepsie!

Here we were saying that WKXP would be the station with major changes after a HORRIBLE Spring book...and it seems like they are the only one WITHOUT changes!!!

It has been confirmed, by credible sources inside Pendell, that Karlson & McKenzie are in fact GONE! They didn't get fired...Left on their own. Rumor has it they accepted a job in Boston. Wonder where? What happens to PDH now? Bring back Coop and Mikey? LOL...What a joke that would be! Seriously though...they were a MAJOR part in WPDH's rating this Spring. Do those go bye-bye now??

Then, Mix 97 is playing all Christmas music this weekend? If this is a stunt, and they flip to something else on Monday, then I can go for this because it is causing alot of buzz. If this ISN'T a stunt...and they think this will work...WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING!??! Christmas in July? Hi...It's 90 degrees outside. You are not getting me to think about Christmas right now! Hey Randy, get your head out of your --- and program like you mean it. I actually started to really like this station. And to think some people wondered they have been down the past two books...STUPID PROGRAMMING LIKE THIS!!!

Wow, to think Kicks is the one standing...and the rest are in shambles...that's VERY sad!

Seacrest Out!

The Hudson Valley just became ordinary again... ugh!!! K&M leaves for Boston and we are left with the same lame, bland, behind the curve morning programming that was there before K&M first arrived, Remember... the only thing remotely entertaining or as funny as K&M was when the T-Man syndication show out of Seattle played on Kiss FM. And that had to be imported 3000 miles. What is the alternative? Boris and the under 14 morning show at WRRV? Or the "asleep at the wheel" Woodman at WSPK. As a fan, as a listener, as someone in the indusrty... this sucks balls!

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!!!???

I say the Mix 97 christmas music is indeed a stunt. Think back to "Christmas 94.3" before the flip to Kicks from Cool. It was a similar deal. When you go to the website..."Mix 97 is the Hudson Valley's #1 choice for Christmas Music."....riiiiight.

I agree that Kicks is the one that needs to flip. NOT Mix...at least not right now.

EDIT: Upon further reading, the old website is still there when you click a button. There are lots of upcoming events. I really don't see them flipping the station now, however, anything's possible with them at this point. This could be a diversion while a real format change is in the works at Kicks. No upcoming events on their page!
Edited by derekm on 07/23/05 04:08 AM.

Gosh, this is the most interesting activity in Hudson Valley radio since Hits went to Fox (which doesn't sound as good now) I heard K and M left on their own. I really don't know if Mix 97 is stunting or just doing this Christmas thang. And Kicks, they should be the one changing. If Mix goes, I will be upset, because it is otherwise a good station.
______________

Yes, the K&M website says to check back to get the whole scoop on why they are off the air, and a link to this board! I am very surprised that they are gone, I wasn't a listener, but they are one of the main reasons that the station's ratings have been so high.

Mix Update: The following line was added to the note above the Christmas in July emails: "We'll be back to usual on Monday."...no format change there.

I wonder if 106.3 WFAF will go back to a WFAS-FM simulcast......I believe that they flipped to a WPDH simulcast b/c of K&M.
______________

I don't know, but the good WPDH ratings are in trouble now unless they get another good morning show. They will probably just wait a while. It was about 2 years ago that Coop and Mikey left, and then K&M came on in September. So maybe by then they will get someone new.

I'd have to disagree. While K & M have been a tremendous asset to the station, there are other factors that will keep it rockin.

1. Its heritage. The best thing Benfer did was bring back the home of rock and roll. Everybody knew WPDH was the home of rock & roll from the 70's into the 90s. I remember Stew Schantz, Rick Buser, Robyn Taylor (the first time around)Pete Clark... (I'm missing the guys before this time period) Mike Harris got scared of Bud Walker signing on ZRock on a less good class A signal, and decided to focus on classic rock & roll. (This was about the same time we started seeing the chicken appear on the billboards; but, now it does look more like an eagle... but I digress...) When Dyson got WRRV & 96.9, they kept PDH away from RRV.
Now, it sounds great to not just hear old stuff - Good move.

2. Big signal. - Nobody has a bigger and better signal. 101.5 comes in everywhere. And where 101.5 falls off, there is 106.1 in Sullivan county, and 106.3 in Westchester.

3. Its polished. WPDH has sounded major market long before the big guys came along. And, with a resource such as Cumulus behind it, they will find new talent and keep it on top. (How about Schantz & Stefanci... remember that?!)

You can bet Chuck Benfer will not let WPDH slip. He has put so much into it.

Don't believe it...they didn't do this for no reason. Think about it- ratings weren't great, coming out of the spring book. Why else would they do something as idiotic as this?? Far and K&M go- nobody could blame them for moving to a bigger market like Bean town.

Anyone care to speculate?? Think Miller, Turnip and Jones are history??? talk about tired and played out.... I'm not a fan of CC but they took the oldies format and ran with it. Should be interesting. Timing sure is there.

Go for it...

Oh I agree, WPDH will do fine. I'm just surprised to see K&M leave. The station has been around for a long time, it's not going anywhere.

They sure did. Cumulus should have never flipped Cool 94.3 to country...of all things! And WKXP?! How unoriginal...we already have WSPK and now WXPK in westchester. I liked the WBPM call letters much better at 94.3, they had a history there too. And I also liked WRKW at 92.9. The rock format was doing poorly there, but i was suprised that flipped when it did. CC didn't miss out on that opportunity.

Yeah, but Boston is a much bigger market than Poughkeepsie. They probably were offered some good jobs. WPDH will still be ok, a drop off in the ratings is possible, but they will be ok. As BW said, it is a heritage rock station with a booming signal all over.
______________

Bottom line- if you want the talent to stay you must treat them well. As I said-who could blame these guys for moving from a lame market like Poughkeepsie to a major market like Boston???

Should be interesting to see who they bring in.

maybe they will move miller and jones over...

104.7 (I forget the call letters SPK?) has a much better signal than PDH. Granted it's a different format. You can pick it up in Newark NJ. I've always wondered where there tower was, must be on some mountain

When was Robyn Taylor's first stint.

Pam Brooks of i95 in CT worked for PDH in the 80's. Can't beleive someone remembered Stew's name. I've always wondered what happened to him.

Robyn was at WPDH in the 80's. Did overnights, then went to mid days, IIRC. Robyn was let go by Mike Harris, and then she went to WBPM to work for the Maxwells. She was there for a while. Then she went to WCZX and worked for Harry Gregor (now there is another adventure) Harry couldnt keep up the payments with Sillerman, so the station was sold to Dyson. Robyn was now working for Harris again... this time on CZX. Eventually, Harris left to run the toilet factory for Dyson and Robyn moved back to PDH.

When I was writing the original post, I thought of Pam. woops. What a great person. She came from I95, was on PDH for a while, and then went to HCN in Hartford. At some point she returned to I95.

Did I get that all right?!
Edited by bw on 07/25/05 02:42 AM.

PDH is further north than SPK. They are both on mountains. PDH is higher and unobstructed, thus the bigger signal.

104 or 101 doesnt matter who has the better signal .......anyone hear anymore updates on K&M

I haven't heard anything. I just keep checking the website. I thought this was pretty funny though...Under cool links they have links that say "are you a liar?" and "are you a compulsive liar?" I figure this has something to do with "We refuse to tolerate the lies." and "We think you know who the bad guys are in all of this." I guess they're trying to make it clear that they were lied to.
