Don't Gary Edens KT'R-FM

Remember when Gary Edens pulled the plug on KQYT and moved KOY-AM to 95.5? At the time he said he was taking a great product and exposing it to more listeners on the FM band. That was 20 years ago, and now The Men In Secret Underwear may be doing the exact same thing by taking a geriatric AM station and moving it to FM. Edens quickly learned that even Tim Hattrick paired with Bill Heywood couldn't make the station sound any younger or relevant. KOY-FM became Y95 and KOY-AM died a slow death on AM (including becoming a sports parking lot on the way to the cemetary!). Is it deja vu all over again for TMISU with ancient on air personalities and features? Just because KT'R is on FM, doesn't mean more or younger persons will listen. And as Nurse Jeff reminds me, Gary Edens didn't have to pay $70+m for his FM

Remember when a comic called Life in Hell first came out 20 years ago with characters called Nurse Jeff and Dr. Akbar and everyone thought it was hip and funny?

Exactly as applicable, exactly as relevant.

KTAR is doing better than any non-politically-driven format out there. And now they are going to where the listeners are.

You know, Doc, KTAR'S format may be geriatric, but compared to your act, it is downright fresh and invigorating.

We know you love KFYI.

We know the same six people will all joke and nod and wink about Toaster Talk. Been there, heard that.

We know that right wing radio addicts will do anything to attack the competition.

We know that Fox News Channel is similarly hyped in the ratings by The True Believers.

KTAR-FM

It's success remains to be seen! But don't quit your day job yet! I rather see it dying a slow death under the
management of Bonneville.

My sentiments, exactly, Zuma Hans.

KTAR rocks and Pat McMahon will always be cool, unflappable, debonaire, smooth, gentlemanly, diplomatic, witty, brilliant, charming, topical and hip.

Akbar, maybe you should change your schtick to something fresh like Zippy the Pinhead.

Dr. Akbar sounds like he is about 19 yrs old & has an axe to grind with anyone over 30.
His act is getting "old".

Only time will tell with KTAR-FM.

I have no idea what will happen with KT'R-FM, but I like the fact the station finally has some life to it. For way too long this station has wasted away. In the last few months its finally gotten some punch or kick. They need some new hires up against rush hannity. But at least theyre given it a run for the money. Sounds so good on FM this morning.

As far as Akbar. Ditto. ;)

Aside of a few audio glitches, it sounds great. Now they need to get rid of Paul Harvey (unlikely since he's a cash-cow); he's totally out of place on FM.

How many times will the staff catch themselves saying "Newsradio 620" instead of "News 92.3?" Detour Dan barely caught himself this morning: "This is Detour Dan for Newsrad..News 92.3 KTAR." ;D

Akbar! Red alert!

They let a GURL do the legal ID!

>"What in the wide world of sports did TMISU think when..." blah blah ... Buckeye media hut ... blah blah blah ... Nurse Jeff yadda yadda '76 Gremlin ... ... ...

But cheer up, I just heard this liner: "Fewer buttons to push.... news 92.3, KTAR."

Sounds like KTAR is not abandoning Sun City after all.

I like having an FM news station. I can listen any time of the day, inside or outside, during a thunderstorm, driving under an overpass... And it gives Phoenix a major market feel.

That said, in every car I've been in recently, there is still an AM button. To expect any more than a slight bump in TSL & cume, The Men are dreaming.

Harvey's gotta go...

Not that NJ and the good Dr. need any defenders, but I think he's hilarious, and savvy.

The comic "Life in Hell" is a Matt Groening (The Simpsons) creation, by the way.

No kidding?

YIKES! Never did Nurse Jeff and I think we'd become the David Eduardo of the Phoenix board. Let's see if we can make it to at least four pages of dissing like David has on the LA board. The Nurse and I are ready, so go ahead and bring it on!

What do the pope and I have on common?

I mean, besides sleeping in ermine pajamas?

We both managed to - without meaning to, but stupidly - offend people wearing fezzes!

How could I face myself in the mirror, having said bad things about the fertile mind who conceived TMISU. That, my fez-wearing friend, was pure inspiration.

Your trite cliches are far less of a matter than El Mundo en accuerdo de El Pluperfecto.

Challenge withdrawn.

zumahans: what a man.[EDIT]

this isn't about "akbar" or any other liberal talk host who can't get a gig in phoenix. but, if you're going to say his drill is tired, say it, and withstand your beating. enough of that s***. ;)

back to the topic. was it just me or did tedsimmons stand out like a sore something. i love the new promotional sound of kt'r, but when is the new afternoon host coming? didn't they say they were looking for someone like six months ago? can't kfyi or kt'r hire a talker?

[EDIT=inappropriate language.]

Thank you. His schtick is older than McMahon, which is saying a lot.

[EDIT]

What I was trying to say was [EDIT].

So, as you know it's [EDIT].

And that's what [EDIT].

I'm sure you [EDIT] and [EDIT]. But, [EDIT] the [EDIT].

Understand?

[EDIT=the truth.]

No worries Zoo. It actually was just a lame attempt at humor they deleted. whhhatever. ;)
