Don't like "Skyfall" by Adele

I always turn the radio off when this song comes on. I don't understand how this made it onto hot AC radio charts but it's terrible in my opinion and should be taken off. It's very depressing. Does anyone else here agree? I really wish radio stations would stop playing that.

Its a boring song, but it's Adele- anything she releases will chart. Skyfall died quickly at CHR, but seems to be hanging on at Hot AC. My guess for it's longevity is because she has become a staple of Hot AC playlists. Then again, songs by big artists don't usually crash and burn after a few weeks on Hot AC like they do on CHR.

^Almost every cut by Adele is boring.

She's one of the reasons why I'm glad radios have tuning dials, frankly.

Oh people, give her a break. She's a talented artist, with good songs, many which hit #1 on the pop charts. "Skyfall" is a good song, obviously driven by the 007 film.

Adele, the best & talented since Debby Boone!

The above post is brought to you by the same guy who thinks that cuts that have been in rotation on Foreground Music One for a decade and a half are "new additions".....

She's only "talented" because the people (read: marketroids) who hype her up say so. If you actually have ever *listened* to any of her work, she's not really any better than the dozens of other squeaky-voiced kids who are currently putting out records but can't hit a note or stay on beat to save their lives, yet pass as "singers" these days. If you've heard one, you've basically heard them all.

At least Debby Boone cound sing. And at least she actually had a *voice* to work with.

Is this bizarro world? ???

You don't think Adele can sing?

I have been lucky in my career to attend lots of live shows and sound checks with lots of successful singers. Note, I did not sing great singers. True, a lot of artists hide behind produced vocals and sex appeal but trust me, that ain't Adele. Debbie Boone couldn't carry Adele's jockstrap when it comes to singing, in my humble opinion. ;D

I always thought she sounded like a Canada goose with a respiratory infection. At least on parts of "Someone Like You"...

Adele is a refreshing talent. 21 is a masterpiece. She was the perfect artist to sing this song for the movie and does an amazing job.

"You don't think Adele can sing?"

Nope. I don't *think* she can't sing, I *know* it from listening to her.

She doesn't sing, she squawks. (techie2's description is spot-on.) It's the vocal equivalent of a fistful of gutter spikes being scraped across a blackboard. Like I said before, at least Debby Boone actually has a voice to work with. But then, these days "successful" pretty much always refers to how strong one's marketing campaign is, not how talented one is (or in this case, isn't.)

Adele can sing. She's got a bluesy voice with a bit of grit to it, which may not be everyone's cup of tea, but at least it's got character.

I haven't heard Adele enough to rate her skill or voice but "Skyfall" is one irritating song to listen to. Too much repetition, no range and no emotion. Compared to Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger" for instance "Skyfall" falls flat as a pancake.

I don't see how it stays on the radio.

Well, you're not missing much. Shirley Bassey really had a set of pipes. Adele's got a squawkiness that makes her sound like a tone-deaf parrot, and little more than that. (So boombox, if that's what you mean by "having character", you've hit it spot on.)

Frankly all of her stuff is bland, effete and irritating to listen to, like the female equivalent of Brett Dannen or even that Bieber kid (wait--he's just irritating, period.) They only stay on the radio because some closed-door marketroid focus group somewhere has determined that that's what everybody supposedly wants to hear.

That, and the fact that people sing along with Adele songs. Just because YOU don't like her, doesn't mean other people don't. I hope you're not a PD or Music Director.

Ugh, "Someone Like You" is a horrid, station-changing tune.

Oops, reading my post back...I didn't mean to insult you or come off as arrogant, sorry about that.

But seriously: I'm not a fan of Adele either, personally. But when I see people's reaction to her songs, it tells me to keep on playing her music on the Hot AC station I program. Same thing for some local "The Voice Of Holland" winners. Don't like the songs, but it fits our audience and they like it.

Example: I'm standing in a supermarket, Set Fire To The Rain plays in the background. A woman of about 30 hums along. To me, that's a little instant market-research.
