DON'T LOSE THE SMOOTH!!

I keep hearing about the wishing and hoping for a format flip of 95.7. Frankly, I enjoy the station very much. It's nice to listen to something relaxing on the way back from a hard day's work. I don't care if they throw in Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and other non smooth jazz artists in the mix. The station kinda reminds me of Jazz FM in the UK; a mix of smooth jazz, classic soul and 70s soft rock. The Wave is a nice change of pace as opposed to everything else on the Houston dial. This "Fresh" format would probably go better on 96.5- all I hear on that station is a constant rotation of NIckelback, Matchbox 20 and the occasional 80s rock song. Movin' is awful too; they are still trying that similar format in San Antonio and is failing miserably. Sunny isn't as soft as it used to be...so what else do I have to chose as a softer alternative? Do I need to buy XM again? Yes, The Wave has its flaws in some of their song selections (ie In The Air Tonight), but please....DON't LOSE THE SMOOTH!

I really don't understand why people really want the station to flip.

I think it's because most of us can think of better things to do with 95.7. KHJZ is a good station but the Smooth Jazz format is just not fun or exciting anymore. You may not "lose the smooth" as you say, but you will lose the jazz. The "J" word is being taken out of the format very slowly, so you'll get more of what you can get on KMJQ. If you listen to KMJQ in one hour, you'll hear about 5 songs heard on KHJZ. You'll be better off with a combination of that and KODA and still have some "smooth." The instrumentals (tell me who Paolo, Phillipe Saisse, Nightflyte, Blue Knights or XL are) will slowly be phased out so you'll basically have what you can get on KMJQ. Besides, the BA Network is being forced on non-performing stations (KHJZ is the 17th most listened to station in Houston), so it will sound the same as the rest around the country. Any exciting tunes you like now may disappear if there isn't a flip. To save money, they'll blow out Donna McKenzie, Greg Morgan, Donna Franklin and others for Dave Koz, Miranda Wilson, Maria Lopez and others. If they don't do that, they'd probably just flip. But what you hear now will definately be gone once the spin-offs offer new format opportunities. Listen to the streams of some SJ stations now around the country (try Dayton, Ft. Myers, Philly, Columbus, OH and more) and you'll pretty much hear what's coming if KHJZ does stay with the format.

attention khjz pd. this post is correct. jazz fans like jazz, not the pop junk "mixed" in to make it "smooth". tough to get any tsl when listeners surf the dial rather than listen to jazz that isn't.

Expect CBS to change format to "HOT" sometime mid to late March. I have no idea what "HOT" is, and clues?

We've already had one "Hot" format in the form of Hot 97.1, which lasted two years. Churban was the most commonly used descriptor. The 97.1 signal was poorly suited to the target audience. Perhaps the new "Hot" would be a reworking of CBS's "Movin'" format?

I doubt anything is going to happen to KHJZ until the dust settles from the CC spinoffs.

Please no hip hop krap or Spanish . Anything else if fine I suppose. Don't look for Rock or Active Rock to go on that frequency.

Sounds like another CHR.
Maybe even a R/CHR.
I'd be surprised if CBS wasted that signal with a format like that.
It will either be Fresh or Rock.
Something that will get adult numbers.
Most buys are upper demo.
Why go after the kids?
The web site domain could be a smoke screen.

"Hot Talk 95.7". CBS would finally have a home for Opie and Anthony in Houston. Just a theory. Afternoons could go to Don and Mike. Just my two cents worth...that is all.

talk radio failed already. Remember 97.5 ??

Of course, signal issues were part of the problem. But Talk also failed on KKHU (Who??? Enough said.)

I could see talk on 95.7 if it was part of a larger cluster, but not with the current CBS station lineup here.

I think its a waste of a good city grade blow torch signal. AM is for talk in my opinion. It would be nice if JACK FM was on 95.7

You hit the nail right on the head! "Talk" on FM, in my opinion, is the epitome of wasted spectrum. KLLI in Dallas is a perfectly good example of that. I really can't see the logic in them doing that here (or anywhere).

If CBS wanted to do a good "News" format on an AM here, I think they could kick arse and take names. But...that would be logical, and as we all know..."logic" doesn't seem to enter into the equation anymore.

Gotta disagree with ya, ol' ex-partner of mine...

I would love a good, live and local FM talk station. I think "All News" on AM will likely never be launched again in any market. I cannot recall which industry publication had a story recently about the AM news/talk stations that have migrated to FM. Washington and Phoenix were two of the markets where it has been done.

I say if there is a hole do it, damn the side of the dial. -Even if it means talk on FM.

Hopefully not-so-fast on the format switch. The PPM info came in today, and KHJZ's numbers were up this period, and it was a significant bounce from the last results. I still think a little tweaking here and there (as in let's hear a little more jazz, and a little less Simply Red), I think they will continue to trend upward.

Why not bring over SportsRadio 610 over to 95.7 and relaunch a real business talk format on 610? Just a thought.
