Dont Talk Over The Intro

It was wonderful when WLS would run some spots, a sung ID, then a split second of silence,...then a song that "always" got
talked over....with no talk up AT ALL. It really made the songs sound bigger than if they were talked over.
Wasn't too darn often, but often enough to be a regular change in the pattern.

I always thought somebody told the dj to talk over the song so people like me could not record the "hot new song" onto cassette. :-\

But I did like recording jingle/song/jingle/song/... ah those were the days... :)

That never mattered to me. I always recorded the song (onto 8-track back in those days!) whether the announcer talked over the intro or not! After all, these tapes were just for MY listening enjoyment, not anyone else's.

When I got into radio myself, at my first station, I received a request to play a certain song. I played it. Next day, I got another request from the same listener for the same song, but this time asked me not to talk over the intro. "Do you want to record it?" I asked. Affirmative was the reply. "Oh, well, you should have told me that yesterday!" ::) Anyway, I not only played it again, I announced before the commercial break that that particular song was coming up next! ;D

I remember at the skating rink back when I was in high school, they played songs that they had recorded directly off of American Top 40! They tried to cut it before Casey started talking, but I could still hear him in there occasionally anyway! Who did they think they were fooling?
