Doo Wop Cavalcade on PBS

Watched the "Doo Wop Cavalcade" on PBS, with pledge drive announcements from TJ Lubinsky & Joe Stevens (both from Oldies 100 WJRZ) every so ofton. Its ironic - advertisers shun 50+, yet whenever PBS needs members & pledges they cue up the oldies specials. I was really suprised that Earl Lewis could still hit the high notes.......

I liked the show so much, Im going to buy it ASAP.If anyone else wants it, go to http://www.njn.net/joinsupport/televisionpledge.html then click on Doo Wop Cavalcade. <P ID="signature">______________

Was that Earl Lewis about 20 minutes ago, a tall white guy with light brownish hair? I just saw part of the special. How do I justify that Doo Wop is darn cool, yet hits from the 50's,60's, & 70's make me burp?

Backl? Anyway, Willie Winfield of the Harptones could still hit the high notes, too! Good show for Doo Wop fans. Did TJ get in enough plugs for his show on the NJN showing of this special? I think Jerry Blavat was on the Philadelphia PBS pledge breaks, too.

No need to "justify". There are a lot of great Doo Wop songs that were never a hit. Just discover them and enjoy them.

Hopefully, PBS will air more oldies music shows, and start running them outside of pledge weeks.

Peggy Farmer and the Harptones...

Great answer!. Some of us have heard our fair share of commercial oldies for two lifetimes. However Doo Wop is different!. I see AOL has a Doo Wop Channel, along with XM Radio, and I just heard Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers doing 'the ABC of Love'. Never heard it before, it was great. Are you familiar with the Personalities doing 'Woe Woe Baby', WOE! Now they're playing the Platters, 'Smoke gets in your Eyes', is this Doo Wop, sure it is! Wait, now the worst song of the last 20 minutes, the Shirelles and Soldier Boy, ick.
