Doo Wop????

Anybody out there doing Doo Wop? Besides the 'Dave the Rave' show which is aired on satelite... who else across the country is doing ok with this format for 2-3 hours once or twice a week?

I'm doing a doo wop show for an auto club here in Georgia, 3rd Sunday of the month and every Thursday night 3 hours... everyone likes the show and I hear good stuff about the show and the memories, but wondered where/what is the market with this stuff?

Any one out there?

Doesn't 98.1 WOGL play some doo wop? They are a very successful oldies station. Also, I know that our local "Oldies 1360 WNNJ AM" plays doo wop everyday, but this is just a rimshot signal.

Cool Bobby B does a syndicated Doo-Wop show and he's got a bunch of stations. I like it and listen online on rockit radio. Check out his website... www.doowopstop.com.
Otherwise, it is my belief that, although the passion level of the Doo-Wop-ers is extremely high, the demographics involved make it more a labor of love than profit.

WOGL in Philadelphia has a 3 hour doo-wop show Sundays 9pm-Midnight, 'Harvey Holiday's Street Corner' Sunday, on since July, 1989 except a 6 month hiatus when management dropped it for a time a couple years back and cut 2 hours of the show. Local legend Hy Lit also plays some there 7-9pm.

This market is still a big doo-wop area, with songs regularly during the week on Oldies 950 WPEN, South Jersey stations WVLT and WNJC play some, and non-commercial WRDV in Hatboro plays obscure doo-wop/vocal harmony music much of the day on weekends (also streamed from their website). Can also hear the syndicated "Doo Wop Express" and "Cool Bobby V" weekends from WKAP in Allentown.

Not to toot my own horn (and I don't like to, as a rule), but my Internet station does play a healthy dose of "doo-wop" every Mon-Thur evenings from 11:00 to 1:00 AM (Eastern) at http://wxrbfm.com . Listeners in Southern Worcester (MA) County and Northern Windham (CT) County should be hearing "'XRB Latenight" on WXRB-FM/95.1 beginning in late September as well. Both WXRB-FM and "SuperStation WXRB" are totally separate but play the same type of music, .....OLDIES music. NO, we're not the answer to "The Doo-Wop Shoppe", Cousin Brucie or Harry Harrison from the late 'CBS-FM (and we'll NEVER will be). But we're doing OUR part to make sure that these little gems of Americana will never be forgotten. I'm hoping other fellow webcasters and LPFM's take my cue and put "doo-wop" on a regular basis on the air as well. I DON'T care what some Madison Avenue hot-shot "corporate executive" says. Oldies are STILL viable. So hit the road JACK.

Re: Doo Wop-Cool Bobby B et. al.

Cool Bobby B is on rockitradio.com. His show is archived for about ten days.

I have found a few doo wop stations on Live 365.

I don't know if I would call Dave The Rave doo wop. I think he prefers late sixties garage to fifties and early sixties doo wop. He plays some doo wop but not that much. I am sure it is less than 20% of his show.

There are other jocks at topshelfoldies.com who play more doo-wop and for some it dominates their show, though I do not think there is an all doowop show on the station.

Every night of the week at 8P(Eastern) there is a live show. On Saturday a jock named Maltman does a show at 7PM with a good dose of doo wop.

Also there is a Dutch language show on rockitradio.com that has all American Doo Wop. It is called Heebie Jeebie. It is at the bottom of the archived shows list. A good opportunity to practice your Dutch language schools.
