Dori - Jessica Cross Talk ?

Anyone notice that Jessica Gottesman no longer just reads the news at :57 and :30 during the Dori Monson show any longer? There is very noticeable cross talk between them now.

Maybe she'll replace Dori when Bonneville cuts the budget for 2011.

They've definitely been yucking it up more. She makes me gag, very forced. It sounds like some consultant's idea of a great team. KIRO is getting close to rolling out a new line up across all dayparts. If Dori survives, it will be with a co-host.

Have heard rumor of the new lineup after the success changing mornings and of Ron and DOn in recent books. Anyone have demo info? 6+ looks very good. Dori has the weak numbers on the station so changing his show or phasing it out seems likely. Is Dave Ross staying or retiring? I like his show but it no longer seems to fit the direction of KIRO-FM. Mornings news and the Ron/Don approach seem to be propelling the station to bigger ratings. Not my cup of tea, but it seems to be working. Probably a cheaper direction for Bonneville too.

When are contracts up for Dori and Dave? That will be your clue that change is coming. Did Bob Rivers ever re-sign with KZOK. Still wonder if he might transition to FM News/talk as someone suggested on another board. In the new KIRO-FM environment he might be a nice fit. KZOK numbers are not very strong in mornings compared to the rest of the day. Like Ron and Don, a move to news talk from FM mornings can make sense.

Dori may not leave Bonneville but I wouldnt be surprised to see him moved over to being a "sports guy" at 710. And thats only if that stations rateings can stay above the Mendoza Line. The back and forth banter with Jessica is just a bit more of copy-cat stuff that seems to work with talkies like Ron and Don, not to mention Rivers who does a great job in my opinion at being a traffic cop in a room full of co-hosts..

RADIOGUY: You say "6+ looks very good." Where do you see that, because when I look at the July ratings on Radio-Info, KIRO is ranked #19 and is #18 in cume. How can that be very good??

Maybe they're kicking arse in 25-54 or something, but looking at the overall numbers KIRO radio is at the lowest level in 30 years for the brand. And the 710 a.m. signal (ranked #17) is also at an all time low.

In fact, those are the lowest summer numbers EVER for a Seattle radio station carrying Mariners baseball.

Agreed. KIRO-AM and KIRO-FM should never have split apart. The numbers I have seen are actually 12+ showing KIRO-FM afternoons in the top 10 the last couple of books, much better than a year ago and well ahead of other spoken word stations. The mid-days ranked like 15th. Nights are 25th which speaks to recombining the two signals since KIRO-AM at night gets a good rating, but not during non-baseball times.

I doubt either station does very well 25-54 adults, since the demo for this format is 35-64 or older in the PPM.

I think the top stations in Seattle 25-54 in afternoons are KISW and JACK, but that was a couple books ago.

After listening a bit more intently to 12n-3p, I've decided that I really can't stand Jessica being added as another wall-to-wall voice along with Dori..or whomever is subbing for him that day. She's just....too much..THis week she was with John Curly on friday and it really turned into button pushing time for me. My head started to hurt. She has the nice tones but doesnt take a breath. Kind of like Ron Upshaw..

KIRO/bonneville solution:
get rid of everyone, and broadcast classic KIRO/bonneville, late seventies through early 90's.
every day's broadcast is a rebroadcast from a different year, that was broadcast on that exact same date. kinda like casey kasems classic top 40's on sunday.
many of us would rather hear classic jim french, dave ross, bill yeend, dave dolacky, wayne cody, harry woppler. well before the corporate city slick newsclock, enternewsment schtick days, heavy commercial loads, and constant in your face self promos, took over KIRO.
just think how much money it would save bonneville.........the entire day could be run by a minimum wage button pusher(perhaps dori?). oh i suppose they'd still want a current voice to do a minute of current news/traffic updates. is dori still available?

truckin bozo radio consulting inc. improving content, and saving owners money, is my bottom line

Doris spends a great deal of time trying to prove his manliness. I've never met the guy (nor do I want to) but his photos show a very average, wimpish looking guy. I'm all for more Jessica if it = less Doris.

There have been very, very few on-air folks who grate on me like Doris. I can't even listen to Seahawks pre-game with his strained whine.

I wish nothing bad for Doris - just get a gig out of this market. Doris will make a good $$ on his KIRO pimped house.

@Scott - I actually kind of like the idea as well. It's happening more & more. Peanuts still runs long after the death of Charles Schultz. Many other examples ... anything is better than witnessing a once proud set of calls crumble, day after day ...

scott made this "KIRO/bonneville solution" idea in jest.......but lets explore how this might actually work in a realistic situation for KIRO/bonneville.

KIRO/bonneville has a very long and proud tradition, with KIRO programming, and KIRO personalities. this classic rebroadcast stuff could actually work on weekend afternoons/evenings. classic midday jim french, and dave ross and even classic wayne cody sportsline. the classic broadcasts could be promoted, and bookended with current host news/traffic/weather info breaks.

KIRO's recent broadcasting past is something to be proud of. judging by the constant #1 ratings back in the day, many of us spent most of the mid 70's, thru the 90's, locked in at 710AM. this idea might even be relevant at other major market heritage stations as well, that have a strong multi decade radio personality history.

-scott (living in KIRO radio past, in an effort to rectify KIRO radio present)

Gawd...Could the idea have legs..?? Hooking together the maze of legal paths would be a challenge, but the real show stopper would be convincing the ego-driven heads at KIRO that #18 with a bullet is not going to sell much air time.
"Throwback Radio"....Hmmmm...Well, it sort of worked for the NFL, right?
