Dori Monson's off Seahawks broadcasts for transphobic tweet

Crocodile tears. He got caught up in committing the modern social media-talent sin; sending out a textual opinion that involves, race, sex or gender.

But he makes a boatload of $$$ for the church. That can trump anything.

I remember hearing Bonneville's former VP of Engineering comment on Tom Leykis..he said "the programming is embarrassing but it brings in the dollars".

A church that until recently would not allow people of color to enter its clergy, no less.

Yet in Latin America they had clergy who were of indigenous peoples heritage thirty to forty years ago. That does not make sense... not that I expected it to.

Interestingly, the Mormon church expects Hispanics to be the majority of their believers within less than a decade; at present Hispanics and Brazilians make up about 45% of the church membership.

Of course, the prohibition of Black priests was eliminated 42 years ago, in the tail end of the desegregation and minority rights period of over two decades.

When will it stop? He's obviously not a total baboon. He just plays one on social media.

People get drunk on the fame they accumulate on social media. It can be a destructive vice.

I don't think he's a baboon either, but just lost sight of the impact that social media has on his gig(s). As you say; he could have just been caught up in his long-standing 'fame' and tenure, believing he's somehow immune to saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Where he tripped up, was crossing over his right wing-leaning opinions, to his show for the Seahawks. The flack from that social media goof spattered his standing with his primary gig.

Just being in Seattle also amplifies this sort of misstep. He should have known that.

Thanks for setting me straight. Somehow, I'd been thinking that the prohibition had only ended in this millennium, not all the way back in 1978 -- which was still 14 years past the Civil Rights Act.

He's Back!

Dori Monson returns after serving a 3 week suspension:

“They said I was making fun of transgender people, which honest to goodness didn’t even cross my mind then. But people called me transphobic,” he said in the apology. “The truth is, I couldn’t care less if an adult wants to adopt a different gender. At the time, I was commenting on our governor and changing official state documents.”

This is the part I find so hypocritical. If he believes in less government, he should approve of less bureaucracy in changing state forms. Makes sense to me. Some states require lots of paperwork. In Washington, it's pretty simple. Isn't simplicity in government a good thing? Or does he only want it to be difficult for transgender people?

When it comes to gender equity, I suspect he's mirroring the feelings of most of his white male 55+ audience.
