Doris Monson

I'll let other threads hash out the whole KIRO/KBSG thing. Personally, I think KBSG was a lame station. There might have been good people on the staff but it was BO-RING. Little personality, exceeding whitebread and uptight and KJR-FM plays stuff that feels more like the Seattle radio I remember.

I rarely listen to Dori on KIRO (thank you, Lord) but I caught a bit of his first hour today when he was interviewing the so-called swingers. He then asked for calls saying "I'm a big property rights guy, buuuuutttt .... " The implication being he wouldn't want these folks next to him, either. And this is what I detest about yakkers like him. They rail against "gubmint" and they holler that they're conservative or libertarian (Dori is about as libertarian as Dave Ross is John Birch'ish) UNTIL ... it's a law that THEY want passed or something that affects them.

Truly and completely disgusting, Ms. Monson.

OWWCH!

"Doris" Monson is a bit MUCH. Isn't it?

Doris? Man, I had a good laugh on that one. Can't stand Monson's show. I wonder what his appeal is to so many listeners? The only segment that I have enjoyed of his is his one on one against the nuns weekely football predictions. I try to remember to tune in just to hear them, but otherwise no Doris Monson for me.

I know his gender - or at least what it states on his driver's license.

Ya know, I really like talk radio. I work in music but if I think I might enjoy doing talk at some point. If I do, I know there will be some - maybe lots - of listeners who won't care for me. If a radio type can get 6 or 7 out of 100 to stay with them, they'll be stars so the fact not everyone might like me doesn't sting. Too much.

I really used to like KIRO. I started doubting the sanity of 710 when Alan Prell arrived. It's been in fits and starts but I see the station as being in decline. Getting the Mariners will help. And a lot of what KIRO offers is fine with me. But try as I might, I can't listen to Burbank and his smarmy, ultra-hip (or so he thinks) insider type of radio and I detest what Monson does.

He might be a good guy to have a beer with or work around but all that fake machismo and chest beating, all that "I'm a Libertarian" crap just gets old. He often sounds like he's still back in high school, a jock sniffer - never measured up to the true athletes so rather than play a good game, he can talk a good game. The Seahawks pre-game thing he does reminds me of the rah-rah kind of guy who truly believes he knows what's going on but actually has just a bit more knowledge than a casual listener. His constant on-air reminders of how tough he his and what he'd do to perverts is wearing to listen to. Ron whatshisname with the growly voice is of the same type but he's too cartoonish to dislike. On the other hand, Doris wants to be taken seriously.

Time after time after time, conservative yakkers compromise themselves and contradict what they say they believe in and he needs to be called on it. Not that he will ever read these boards, ever change anything or ever feel one second of shame over the endless product pimping, but ...

One can hope.
