Dothan

I see where a license to cover has been filed for the 100.1 translator that WOOF bought from WEEL. Has anyone checked it out? I think it's supposed to be carrying WOOF-AM. Looks to have a decent coverage area with 250 watts.

It is broadcasting WOOF-AM. I listen to it a lot. Coverage is very good.

Excellent engineering delivered again.

Earl didn't sign either and neither did Scott Helms. Michael is the C.E.O. and it's "his" signature on the documents sworn.

OK. Now I heard that Don just purchased the PC cluster of Magic and that Dothan and CA are still in Durden's control. As for Mrs. Durden doing the signing? That's just what I heard. I'll try and ask the horse himself this next week. So, who's running WTVY these days? I notice they got live people now in the mornings.

Dothan sounds about the same as it always does. WOOF is trying to buy the ratings by way of their cash giveaway. Their AM now being heard on FM spells bad news for ESPN on Tragic's WJRL.

Speaking of Tragic, I am impressed by 100.5. It looks like the geniuses downtown finally figured out how to do something right. If they had as much brains with their other stations as they are displaying with 100.5, maybe they wouldn't suck so bad. WTVY went to a local morning show. Big deal. It is still a God aweful radio station, but not half as bad as their "CHR," which has anyone else noticed has gone through yet another musical shift lately? How is that punk kid Arron Tyler still the PD? FIRE TYLER ALREADY TRAGIC! He will never amount to anything worth a damn other than small markets. The morning show girl is unlistenable and my wife is sick of hearing about the guy's girl problems. Ryan Seacrest? Give me a break. How about a local talent, Tragic? Or are you too cheap for that? You let a long time employee go in Bryan Corbitt, that says a lot.

96.9 is still the best country station in the market, but that is not saying much considering who the competitors are.

That is the Dothan market in a nutshell.

Star is starting to sound stale, but WTVY sounds better than it has in years, IMHO. What musical shift did KMX go through lately? Also, why would your wife still be listening if she's sick of hearing about the guy's girl problems? Why was BC let go? Finally, you claim Aaron Tyler will never amount to anything other than small markets. What large markets have you worked in, or are you just another radio genius when he can hide behind an anonymous radio message board? You're right about one thing, that IS the Dothan market in a nutshell. Radio genuises on anonymous radio message boards.

Did windsofkain get rejected from a job opening at WKMX? I was in the market early last month, and the station didn't sound bad at all. A little conservative, yes, which fits perfectly considering a) it's a small southern market and b) there's no in-market Hot AC. I didn't hear the morning show, but I think it's funny that you suggested a few months that The Radio People deploy a new CHR with Seacrest...and now you're trashing KMX for picking him up. Alrighty then.

They're not Z100, but for a small market (with what I assume is an accompanying small market budget), there's FAR worse.

I have worked in a top 70, which is better than Tyler will ever see.

This is just absurd...do you have a personal vendetta against Aaron Tyler that you'd like to share with the class? I don't know his entire resume, but I do know offhand that he's worked in St. Louis, so nice try.

"96.9 is still the best country station in the market, but that is not saying much considering who the competitors are."

Gee thanks! I'd like to thank my parents, all the people on the team and of course Jesus who has helped
us achieve this historic accolade.

I'm overcome with emotion. Im going to weep in my office now.

You should weep, Brett Mason. You have been criticized by a radio genuis from a top 70 market. You should be crushed! Top 70, what is that, like, Montgomery? Kain, dude, get over yourself. And by the way, I'm no math major but if Aaron worked in market #21, last time I checked, #21 is a bigger market than #70. Also, you never answered my question about the KMX music shift. Enlighten us, oh great former Market #70 genuis. You obviously have all the answers.

Or another(darkman) anonymous radio genius making fun of "Radio genuises on anonymous radio message boards." :)

Observations on Star & TVY are spot on. One anonymous radio genius to another.

Venturing out onto a semi factually supported limb, I predict that Magic Dothan Cluster will be under new ownership
within 180 days. This thread will be irrevelent by then and dammit we will have to start another
thread with slander, innuendos, and uninformed speculation.

As one of the lowly competitors who work hard every day to maintain our level of suckage in order that 96.9 may continue to shine, I'd just like to say.....Brett, next time lunch is on you. And if you ever need someone to carry your headphones, even though I'm clearly not worthy to do so....just say the word, my friend.

My thanks to whoever said nice stuff about 95.5....we're trying.

I do not feel that Magic really deserves all the crap that has been shoveled on them. They hired a MM that took them down this path and it took some time for the upper management to realize the mistakes. The one good thing is they did realize the problems and they did make changes and it will take time for the cluster to regroup. It takes longer to rebuild than it does to demolish so maybe we should cut them some slack and see what happens. Don McCoy has purchased the Panama City Magic stations and with the passing of Earl it could be that Don will take control of the Dothan stations. Earl was a huge community servant and did a lot for the community.

Wasn't Don CEO when Tragic took the tumble? Why would you blame it all on the MM? Seems like Don deserves the blame if the MM worked for Don? I'm just trying to be fair.

It wasn't that cut and dry, dothandarkman. The fall began before the name changed to Magic and even when it did I don't think Don was ever able to fully act as CEO even if he had the title. If you've the time and inclination, read the R-I archives that are associated with Styles Media and the Dothan market from 2003 or 2004. Lots of funk, lots of accusations (some turned out to be founded, some not), lots of egos but read them and the unsaid between the lines, compare to present day now and present day when written. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way taking up for Don, I owe him nothing and he owes me nothing and I doubt seriously that we will every work together. During the time, my guess is the corporate plan was to accumulate a group large enough to flip to Clear or *** but before it was able to be accomplished the leverage model of Clear and *** made that impossible but the ship's course had been set. Once that kind of money is wound into something it takes lots of time to unwind and the unwinding is usually not a pretty thing, for anyone (employees on the front and investors at the end). But read the soap opera to your hearts' content because in my estimation it boils down to what is going to come to the radio industry in the end. Localized ownership and control but done with the realization that you will not get rich quickly anymore flipping properties and for employees a decent living with stability serving your community. I don't think that until recently the many investors of Magic stayed out of the way far enough for any MM to be able to do much but to destroy in an effort to slow the bleeding of cash.
