Double J, the new guy doing afternoons at Wild 977

I noticed this new guy Double J on the air for the past couple of weeks. I saw on the website he's from California. Anybody know any info on this guy? I think he sounds great and will probably make a severe impact in the market. He's definitely what this town needs.

He seems like he is making an effort into trying to win. I don't know about "a severe impact" he's not doing anything which hasn't been done before in the market but as long as he keeps up the effort and commitment I think the numbers could eventually follow.

I found on other boards he is from Central California. Was doing mornings in Stockton on KWIN and in Modesto on KWNN (simulcast) for the last few years. I called my compadre in Modesto and he and said he is "glad Double J is not doing mornings anymore" in that market because other morning shows finally beat out KWIN after he left. My compadre says Double J did very well in morning drive and really dominated the Stockton and Modesto markets while he was there, but that was in morning drive! Heres the problem with this guy, he is trying to do big market radio and bits in Albuquerque, and I'm sorry it just won't work.

Also, has anyone told him that he is not in morning drive anymore? It's like he is doing a morning show in afternoon drive. HA - Not going to work. I will steal CC's motto for a moment - "Less is More" - Take that advice "Double J"- Save your job and be happy with the 1.0 share your station normally pulls against us. LMFAO There is no way he will ever beat out Johnny in afternoon drive, or any of us for that matter here at KKSS. We are heritage and that is all that really that matters. KDLW has a weak signal and not alot of listeners. We have our listeners trained plus have the monster signal in town. Did you people forget that? Let him try all he wants, he still won't even make a dent in the market against us. ;D We can beat him and that station with no show prep and one hand tied behind out backs. LMFAO

As you know those are 12+ numbers, and sure KDLW - THE STATION (not Doble Jota) went up a little in the last two trends. Yes, KOB and us went down a little but that's nada. I am confident on Wednesday when the numbers come out he won't even make a dent agaist mi compadre Johnny in afternoon drive. It will be the same story it has been for the last year - KDLW will continue to stuggle to get any ratings at all. Burque is a Latino town. He is white wich means he can not compete and ca not relate to la raza.

KDLW can have its constant 1+ share. LMFAO We dominate this market and always will. Plus again - WE ARE HERITAGE - Look it up holmes

I wanted to post some thoughts so theres nothing lost in translation. Yes I did move from California a couple months ago. I'm sure I 'm speaking on behalf of most people I know and maybe even some I don't. With this economy and the blow out of jobs over the last few months, I am grateful and lucky I have a gig and am excited to be on the air again. I hope everyone does well this book. Best of luck to everyone including the the entire staff at Kiss and KOB. In the long run the better radio does across the board, the better it is for radio in general. As a Latino on the radio here in ABQ myself, would you please do me a favor and STFU! You are doing the race no favors by coming on here and sounding like a complete pendejo, "holmes". If you really work at KKSS as you claim, then I don't think your PD would appreciate you coming here and speaking the trash you're doing. I know DJ Lopez, and he's a stand up guy...always has been. Seriously...we're all lucky to be doing what we do for a living (after last week, myself especially). For you to come on here and be so negative (not to mention playing the race card? Please!), it's just wrong. Now, I've had my moments in the past where I've dished out some harsh words for competitors, both here and on-air. We're all competing for a small piece of the ratings pie. But it's burned me before, and believe me, it will burn you as well. protoolsnm, just do your job (for your sake I hope you just drive the van and do street hits), and stay off the boards. Oh, and BTW...just because YOUR STATION has heritage doesn't mean YOU do. People get fired from heritage stations, too. Double J, welcome to ABQ...good luck in afternoon drive. 1. Yes, I was fired from the old Mega 95.5 back in the day (I was brought back before moving to TX)...
2. Yes, there was a format change that ended my job in PHX at 103.9 The Party after only 6 months...
3. Yes, there was another format change that ended my gig at Mega 104.1 here in ABQ, and...
4. Yes, we were losing to KKSS in the ratings at the time the station went away...however,

Go to an AM station and make more money, um okay? It's true KKSS has heritage, but even with heritage it doesn't mean you'll always be the top dog, I can tell you many stories of heritage stations that have succumbed to new competition. Your memory might not be to great or like Benny said your probably just a van driver but my friend there was a time when Wild 106 in it's budding days did beat KKSS and yes that's a fact. And as for ghetto...or I mean getto lol ah nevermind, this is too easy.

I think protoolsnm is just mad that he's not doing mornings or afternoon drive at KISS and realizes that if he were doing afternoon drive he wouldn't be able to get good numbers to compete against Double J...dude, just stick to what you're doing (washing vans and doing weekends on air) and you're gonna get your chance soon (soon meaning maybe never since you have so much hate for other people in this market). What you don't understand is that if you were to get fired at Univision Radio, where are you gonna go get an aplication to be on the air? Let me guess...wild 97.7? Well now, I don't normally post on radio-info although I do enjoy popping in here from time to time to see what little tid bits my boy big benny has for me. I'm making an exception today due to some of the ignorance I have read from a supposed staffer from kkss. First I'd like to say that I wasn't a big fan of Double J when I first heard him, but after listening a few times and hearing some of the crazy shit he's done, I have to admit I'm fairly impressed and i'm looking forward to see how far he pushes this thing. He puts alot of hard work into his show, he seems to take pride in insulting the morons of the city when they act like morons (as I did on my time with wild 106 back in the day) and he has an infectious energy that seems to have woken up not only the few listeners wild has, but also a few of his competitors. It's great to hear a dj come in and stake his claim to what he feels is rightfully his. I did the same thing as a scared 21 year old white boy from cali back in 1999. Now that brings me to another subject, see I was told that a white boy from cali wasn't gonna be able to make any noise cause I didn't understand the people in the duke city, and I'm pretty sure that I not only became the number one night jock in the city but wild 106 became a force to be reckoned with due to the incredible talent that was put together. If I remember correctly I beat a heritage DJ (Big Moon) at a heritage station (kiss 97.3). It's not about white, hispanic, or black. It is about talent and entertainment. KKSS still has some damn good dj's and yes johnny v is still one of the best out here, and yes kkss is still the heritage station, but it has nothing to do with being white,black, brown or purple. I think both stations have talented jocks and hopefully this will bring back the fire that this city once had from it's radio stations. I think Big Benny said it best when he said that the ignorance that protoolsnm is spewing is ridiculous and downright wrong. Who knows who will win the battle? Who gives a shit, this is good radio again out here and I for one am excited to watch this battle unfold. To everyone reading these posts lets not let the ignorance of one no talent weekender disrespect the great job DJ Lopez has done keeping the station going strong, and to Double J keep doing your thing and bring back the swagger that the Wild name once had in this city. Now as for that drink I say we all need to get together and have a few drinks Big Benny can get drunk and yell like always and I can try and spew whatever ridiculous bullshit that comes to my mind. I know Big Moon, Big Benny and I all have some great war stories from the old days when everyone kept it real and nobody was worrying about what race somebody was. Just thought I'd add my $.02 worth. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought radio was more like a marathon, not a 40 yard dash. Maybe Kiss wins in the 12+ numbers, maybe Double J edges out Johnny V in the 18-34 females next book, maybe KOB-F gets a killer sampling and knocks both Wild & Kiss out in the winter book, etc. Here in Albuquerque, you never know. I DO know that at 1 time (and you can ask Lopez, because he was my MD), we had Wild on top of Kiss. ;D But that was back in the day.

The Question in The end is do you DELIVER for your advertisers? This week we had several advertisers extend! their advertising, Why? they said their Holiday Biz was UP and they Knew KRKE was a big part of it. Now we do not have Large Ratings but our Demo has the money to spend and did.

How does this relate to the topic? Do good radio for your Target Demo, if you do you will WIN the marathon. In this market stations win as a whole package not because of one talent. Example Where did KOB go after Larry Left... UP and How did Talk 106 do with him, they lasted less than 2 years.

In This Market Ed FM is #4 12+ and higher in the money Demos and they have NOOOOOOOOOO Jocks. They win because their music is spot on!
