Double Monday Night Football Question

When 9 PM ET came around, which Monday Night Football game stayed on ABC in your market? Here in Hartford/New Haven, the Saints vs Giants game remained on WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 of New Haven, CT. The scheduled Redskins vs Cowboys game remained on ESPN with Comcast of New Britain, CT. It was weird not to see the ABC bug in the corner at any one time on channel 8!

BTW, I wonder what would've happened if ESPN and ABC weren't co-owned withone another? Where would the second game have ended up? Also, what happens to the FOX affiliates in New York City and Lousiana? (The stations who were originally going to air the game.) I don't know about WNYW-TV channel 5, but we here in Hartford/New Haven wound up getting the Falcons vs Seahawks game at 4 PM ET.

(On a side note, would the game have been blacked out here in Hartford/New Haven if it hadn't sold out? Hartford is well beyond the 75-mile zone from Manhattan but New Haven isn't.)

New Haven has always been part of the Giants' media base

There might not have been a second game; the NFL probably would have done something different. Having the two together made it easier.

Like the Saints having to give up a home crowd, they just got jobbed and there's nothing they can do about it.
And with NBC getting rights to move games next year for its Sunday Night Football, stations had better get used to it.

In the majority of the markets in the U.S., the Saints/Giants game was moved to ESPN and saw the entirety of the originally scheduled 9pm ET game on ABC.(Redskins v. whoever)

That is how it occured in Philadelphia. And Washington was playing the evil Dallas Cowboys, by the way.

Well, somebody goofed up for the cable systems in Monroeville, AL. I turned over to ESPN at 8PM CT, fully expecting to have two games to toggle back and forth to. To the contrary, ESPN went to a simulcast of the Washington/Dallas game ABC.

Through our cable, I get both Big 4 affiliates from Montgomery and Mobile. I usually watch Montgomery's ABC, WNCF 32, but perhaps in retrospect I should've checked Mobile's WEAR 3 (licensed to Pensacola, FL).

Does anyone know if WEAR-TV stayed with New York/New Orleans?
______________

Same thing happened here with Time-Warner Cable in the Binghamton, NY area. Giants/Saints game was on both ABC and ESPN, then ABC was switched over to the other game at the end of the Giants contest. Had my picture-in-picture all set up at 8:58 and didn't nded it...

I am guessing it might have to do with your market. In some markets close to NJ and LA (Louisiana), ABC stayed with the Giants/Saints game until the conclusion, while the regularly scheduled ABC game was shown on ESPN in those markets (or ESPN-A on DISH).

In the Boston area the same thing happened. Just after Manning got sacked they switched to ESPN at around 8:54PM. Turned to see what happened, and on ESPN there was still a golf show on. Okay if that was not bad enough waiting to see what happened, I fugured at 9:00 the Giants game would come back on. Nope, ESPN then started with the Dallas game. When the Giants game did come back on it was past 9:30. The Boston Globe has a little note that there seemed to be a problem with The networks and the cable companies. I think someone was just asleep at the switch and did not care about the games or the consumer. Any other thoughts?

True. Mobile (less than two hours from N'awlins) has a ticket office for the Saints, and the Fox affiliate (WALA-TV 10) usually tries to show every home and away Saints/NFC matchup that Fox has. WKRG-TV 5 (CBS) tries the same with any occasional Saints/AFC matchup. That's where my assumptions came from, but who knows..
______________

Well if ABC and ESPN were not both owned by Disney. I would say that the second game would of ended up on ABC Family. Where else would they put it if Disney wasn't part of ESPN? But still ESPN might of still been able to show the game as ESPN once showed CBS's March Maddness games during war time when CBS was showing Special News Coverage. Still don't know why CBS didn't just use Spike TV then.
