DOUBLE O CEO/PRESIDENT DIES

August 16, 2011
Bob Sherman, Chairman/CEO of Double O Radio, has died
Sherman died Sunday after noon about 1:30, having enjoyed a formidable career in media. In addition to Double O Radio, he and longtime associate Bob Pittman were principals of Pilot Group LLC, and Sherman was previously the President of Time Warner Cable Media Sales and President/Interactive Marketing of America Online. In radio, he co-founded Roberts Radio (1996-2000) and the WP Radio group (1993-1995), and was a top executive of the NBC-owned radio stations. Sherman was also once the GM of WNBC, New York (660), and a longtime friend of Don Imus, from their days at WNBC. Before that, Sherman managed WCAU-AM (1210) in Philadelphia for CBS. Details are sketchy, but Double O Radio confirms Sherman's death for Radio-Info.com. He had been suffering from liver cancer. The New York Board of Radio-Info.com is remembering Sherman's contributions and some stories, here.

Wonder whats going to happen to Double O Columbia?

Sad news. I would have liked to have met Bob. There's much to learn from someone with that kind of experience. Could you imagine the Imus stories from the 1970's and 1980's?

In retrospect, this explains much of the turmoil at the Columbia cluster. It is very hard to manage a business when you are seriously ill. I know that from personal experience, unfortunately.

Rest in peace, Bob.

the sad thing to learn about this is that he operated stations in the state's capitol. many here have said they were not well run. how can our politicians run the state from columbia if they don't have a good radio forum of opinions from the palmetto state's listeners?

Huh? I'm not sure I follow.

A few years back before 94.3 went classic country the first time Bob called me on the phone and we talked for like an hour about radio, music and so on. I have never met Bob in person but enjoyed talking to him a lot, you could tell he was a true radio person with good experience and knowlege and was very easy to talk to. Rest In Peace.
