Double T 104.3

They have started playing promos for it on 104.3 for it and they said you can send text message "sports" to 75044 and they will let you know when the station launches (as well as additional updates on Red Raider sports, TX Rangers, and Dallas Cowboys).

Still no specific date on when HOT will be gone. Sounds like Double T is just going to sneak up randomly at some point this summer.

I hope it's soon though. I'd rather hear all sports than "Blame it on the ah-a-ahah-a-alcohol" every 30 minutes.

I'd rather blame it on the alcohol cuz. That sports sh!t can get boring after a while. Especially when they take one story and run it into the ground.

Got a text that they will be exclusive pregame from the Frazier...I wonder what that does to Jack and Steve Dale?

Also a friend tells me they're going with a new morning show that won't feature guys with previous radio experience.

And this is different from Fox Talk, how?
Also, is that supposed to be a good thing?

That's like hiring a plumber to be a dentist.

Oh I didn't mean it as a good or a bad thing, just reporting what I had heard.

Glad to see expert analysis from Garrett has made it to another post. I guess we'll see who they're planning to put on the morning, but it can't be any worse than Steve Dale's fights with callers about bad information. I haven't heard that show in years, but I'm assuming it hasn't changed. If they want someone with local knowledge, they might have to go with someone with no prior radio experience.

Today I decided to flip over to 1340. Since they dropped the Herd I haven't listened outside of maybe a few minutes of the Williams & hyatt show. I did hear the announcer say "you thought we were going away. We're sticking around." and something about being macho or something. I only heard it once, but it had me rolling laughing. Why would a station advertise that it's implied they should give up. More power to them if they're going to fight head on with the new sports station. But why would you say "hey, we're still around" instead of just sticking to your slogan.

I'm not sure what is on 1340 at night, but I was driving in from New Mexico a few weeks ago and I usually listen to ESPN for their roundup of baseball action later at night. They were nowhere near sports on a sports station.

And is Tech Talk going to be just on 104.3 or will it still be on 950? You'd think if they move away from the AM station they'd put more of a fluent lineup in place. Glenn Beck and Dr. Laura may both be talk shows, but how many people are really listening to both? And I think they've got about a half hour of commercials crammed into the 5pm show with lots of weather inbetween. I do enjoy the Texas News report at about 5:20 on 950. It's a shame the best afternoon show is hard to pick up, Dennis Miller on 1420.

so you can't be on the radio unless you've been on the radio before. So using that logic, no one could ever be new to radio again...

it is the same logic that says, if you NEED a loan from the bank, you have to PROVE you don't really need it.

I'll reserve judgement until at least day one. You never know, maybe they will be pretty good. Correct me if I am wrong, but Level and Gio had no radio experience either, and I think we all agree they are pretty good don't we?

I find it comical that KKAM becomes "THE FAN" once losing or letting go TECH SPORTS etc... It's pretty appropriate that they become "THE FAN" seeing that they will be sitting on the sidelines when it comes to broadcasting any sports. Are they broadcasting any sports... besides maybe local sports. You don't have TECH, you don't have ESPN, so what do you have? Maybe some NFL action? At this point, I don't see the use for KKAM.

there's "No Use" for alot of radio stations around here, but that doesn't stop them from SUCKING.
start your list here......

I saw a pretty nice TV commercial during the news this morning for 104.3. I think it was in high definition...at least it went from side to side and filled my widescreen and the video looked real crisp. It had the masked rider at Jones Stadium with some Brian Jensen calls. It was different, in a good way.

I could've sworn it said sometime the last week of this month. I know on the commercials on the radio they've said it launches this month. I guess we're really not missing much right now, since July is about the slowest month for sports. Good question, though Garrett. It's been really the only significant change in local radio in some time that has meant much. Guess we'll have to wait and see...or maybe I'll just pay better attention to that TV commercial.

Exactly when is this TT104.3 going to begin?
We're coming up on 3 months, now...
They haven't set an exact date, but I have noticed they have been playing less Hot 104.3 station bumpers in between songs and have just been fading into the next song (with the exception of the Fox 34 weather report and station ID). Another interesting thing I observed is the station isn't broadcasting in stereo anymore. It quit using RDS months ago. And once in awhile they do play a station bumper announcing that they will launch this month.

Won't be long now...

My prediction is the station will be stillborn. Tech football seems to be the only sport that draws interest and most of those games are on t.v. If you're betting on Double T to have an impact, you're crazy. They may sell ads to some big Tech supporters, but Tech is going to take the lions share of those funds.

This is one of those situations in my opinion where you don't know how successful this station will be (technically, you don't ever know...). If they hire some good people (I have heard Ramar is hiring a bunch of new people), then maybe the station has potential. If they don't, then it will fail like 105.3 the Fan in Dallas is failing.

Interesting to have a station in Lubbock that is named and geared towards Tech students though. I've never really heard a station try something like this out here. It almost reminds me of College Station (They have a country station called Aggie 96)
