DoubleT now has a website

I can't believe any one still even MENTIONS that station...I go away for two months and Double T is still the topic dujour on this site. That station was STILLBORN. It has the worst coverage of any station around and other than football season it will never rise above a 2.5 share (after year one, 1.5-2.0 will be their norm). The folks at Texas Tech have got to be kicking the crap out of themselves right now-they lost a station with a killer reach and lost stations all over the region in the process. The only way you're going to be able to hear a decent football broadcast is if Mike Leach starts a "pirate" radio station.

Not bad huh?

BTW: I've seen a lot of complaints about a this station not having a website ready to go. I do not think that was fair in this case. It can take MONTHS to design something that is professional, not to mention all the server space and domain registration that is involved. Considering what is up there now, I think it was worth the wait. I've also seen stations go for much longer with a lot less. Double T is a station that was starting from scratch, so cut them some slack.

Just my 2 Cents worth..

Old Nick, why would Tech be kicking themselves? I thought years ago the biggest mistake made with Tech football was taking them off of KFYO. Now they're back on a powerful AM station. I've listened to 950 in Abilene and all the was past Guthrie in Benjamin. Tech Talk has gotten calls from people listening in the northern Panhandle. It never made sense in recent years, that the one sport on KFYO was the Lady Raiders. It's not like there's big political discussions on Saturday's in the fall for Sean Hannity to mimic Rush about. They even aired the spring football game on 790 a few years ago, which I thought meant they were going to put football there.

I bet Tech is plenty happy. I can't get 1340 at home, can't even get it driving around town at night. Now they've got two FM stations, the powerful AM and even TV coverage with the radio call on 34.2 all across the area. And just serving from memory, it looks like there are more stations across the region than earlier years airing football, though they don't have good stations in Dallas.

The new website looks pretty good. Lots of stations claim to have a great site, but it's just the same national content with a station logo. At least they have original local content. Main thing I use it for is streaming, which has been pretty nice.

PULEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE! No one with a sane mind or any backgroun in radio (no, they are not mutually exclusive) would say that Double T sounds good on any level. The signal is bad, the hosts are bad, the coverage of the game is bad, the imaging is bad, the commercials are poorly produced, many people do not even know the station exists, the t.v. simulcast is a joke (for those of you who don't know they put an unanimated graphic of a field on the FOX weather channel and repost it with "x" marks to show where the ball is), and NO FROM RAMAR DARES CRITICIZE ANY PART OF THIS CHARADE, lest Tech try to pull the rights and put the crap somewhere else (but Tech needs to learn they've already burned too many bridges).

Pretty appropriate your handle is "Static" 'cause thats what you Ramar stations are giving Tech fans.

I can say this as a former radio guy (years ago) who now works in a different area of media. Our company has invested a good deal of money in sponsoring programs on that station, including the pregame show. We've been extremely pleased with our results to date so I can tell you that people are listening. I think most of their local programs are far superior to those on 1340 (possible exception is W&H show). We think that the station is performing well and has tremendous upside. And believe me, we are not high on other areas of Ramar radio.

So Old Nick I'd have to disagree with you. Our response rate and traction from the pregame show has been solid and Tech Talk is consistently listened to by our customers. But I think probably some of your points are valid, they are far from perfect.

Fair enough. I'm FOR anybody that supports ANY local radio. I think I even lost my point which is-there were no great leaps for radio made by launching a sports station on FM. The station just sounds like an middling AM station that happens to broadcast on FM. I guess that really doesn't make it good or bad, but it is a long way from the "innovation" and "upgrade" it should have been.

It does not take MONTHS to design something professional. This site is a simple FILL IN THE BLANKS type of site. All it comes down to is, what do you want on your site.... there is nothing spectacular about this site and what it offers. It's the same old, same old. There is no excuse for Ramar NOT having this site up on launch day. The day they decided to have this station on-air, they should have begun working on the site as well. This DID NOT HAPPEN... we all know this. So, don't be fooled.

Hey Hyatt, err, Old Nick,

Give it up dude. You're starting to sound as petty as your pithy blogs. Double T 104 3 isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Perhaps the folks at KKAM should work on their own house rather than being critical of the competition. The shows at KKAM are ameturish and tired. Yes, even W&H has jumped the shark. Hyatt's act tired, Steve Dale is tired, they have what...cigar shows on saturdays?? That there is some quality programming. What, no fishing shows available? Give me a break. If anything is stillborn, its KKAM. This market would be much better without that joke of a station in the market.

Uh, how can a station thats been around more than 20 years be "stillborn" and "a joke"? Do you even read what you right or does it spill directly from your rear end? And why would you attack Ryan Hyatt? Have you done ANYTHING with your career that is near the achievements of Ryan Hyatt? There are maybe two or three people in this market with Ryan Hyatt's expertise and you're not one of them. I can say this definitively, because they all have too much class to respond to completely retarded and baseless attacks from the likes of you.

I myself do not care for sports or sports radio. I care for radio and I know a good one when I hear it-Double T is not one of them. Maybe they will be someday, but they are not there yet.

Both SPORTS stations SUCK. There is no way around it. And YES... HYATT'S show has lost it's appeal. Does that mean that it sucks? No. However, it's not as entertaining as it used to be. However, THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION. Do not get me wrong, RH is a GREAT GUY and YES... he is very talented at what he does etc... However, the show has lost a step or two. I used to enjoy listening to it. As for DOUBLE T, the station is a mess, just as much as KKAM. If you took the good from both stations and put them together... you would have an "OKAY" sports station.

I think that when it is said that Double T was born stillborn, I think there is some truth there. I mean, ok, you launched.... you carry TECH... and a few NFL games..... what more do you have? As for KKAM.... they lack TECH and have a few NFL games.... what more do THEY have? They both seem to be running on only 50 or 60 percent capacity, for whatever reason you would like to blame it on.

I just don't think the market can sustain two all sports stations.

As an advertiser, we spend dollar across the board but think there is some cannibalization between the two stations.

I think 104.3 missed the mark not moving Tech Talk to the morning. Also their afternoon show pales in comparison to W&H. I think 1340 needs anything fresh to replace the Jack and Steve show.

Will be interesting to see how 104.3 works next weekend. They have been able to mask the weak signal to some extent by having football on 93.7 and 950. Next week they have Lady Raiders, men's basketball and football. That 104.3 signal will be further exposed as the POS it is.

From my listening experience, Lubbock has at least four talk stations with 790, 950, 1340 and 104.3 that stand out above what you'll find in other cities in the region of similar size and makeup. Amarillo has a decent news station, but there's really nothing else unique about KGNC. Go through the rest of West Texas and you don't find much. In fact, there's not much that I've found in this region, it's pretty much the same syndicated content with nothing local.

Some are probably going to like one of the sports stations, some will like the other. Maybe they'll both survive or maybe it'll be a battle for those dollars. A few weeks ago I was waiting on my kids to get here for the Kansas game and I was watching the 104.3 pre-game show on TV. I just decided to turn on the radio and saw they have separate commercials on TV and radio. That means they're probably making money on TV for the cost of a radio show. I am not saying it's huge, but they seem to keep adding ads. The Williams and Hyatt show is still live from different advertiser's locations during the week. Even if it's often infomercial where that person gets to be on the show, their still making money.

Maybe the clients realize those formats can't be copied on an ipod or satellite radio because they have a mix of local and national. I guess we're pretty fortunate in this city.
