Doug Banks Show done on December 31st.....

What a shame! WGCI could really use them both in the mornings locally since I'm still puzzled by the current morning show line-up.

Hopefully, that will put a local jock back in the afternoons on the Urban AC stations that carried them. Michael Baisden will then have the only afternoon syndicated show for Urban AC stations.

I don't think the Banks afternoon show ever had too many stations. I wonder what V-103 Chicago is planning for afternoons, a Banks local show?

Doug tried afternoons and i think its a shame they didn't give him enough time to bloom.

I feel that some of the urban programmers lost confidence in the morning show when he lost major markets New York and Chicago and the two biggest midwest losses were Dayton and Milwaukee. Its always been a well produced show, mornings or afternoons and a great blow to syndication.

At the same time, the question is now will radio stations open up more job opportunities or will they find a syndication replacement? Time will tell. Its interesting to me how Tom Joyner has stood the test of time, where Doug Banks, i believe, has been given a raw deal in the last few years.

As much as Doug is my idol, I prefer Michael Baisdens show simply because its community-conscious, but what i cant stand about it is he has too many topics within four hours, and when people are on hold for a half hour waiting to talk about "last hours topic" he pushes them aside "hold that thought we're on a diffrent topic this hour." That's not right! The show isnt as strongly focused as Dougs. It shows who is a real radio talent, and who is someone who got a break in radio and doesn't know exactly how to do it. Either one topic per show, or combine both topics throughout ALL hours, not just the first and last hour one topic, and the middle 2 hours a different one.

Lastly, the worst thing that happend to Doug Banks show was getting replaced with Steve Harvey on Urban Mainstream staitons. Steve Harvey has never been an Urban morning show, its an Urban AC morning show. In any market where there is a Urban competitor and the Steve Harvey show was put on a station, theres been a drop in ratings for Steve's station on mornings.

I could see if Doug's morning show got dropped for Russ Parr, Rickey Smiley or Big Boy, as they are all Urban morning shows. But not Steve Harvey. Its a shame.

Weird thing is the competition between Russ Parrk and Rickey Smiley..... they are both Radio One shows. Has Radio One lost confidence in Russ Parr in the last few years?????

At this point, it would be a wonderful thing for Chicago if Doug was offered local afternoons in Chicago, but at the same time I don't think he would re locate his family back to Chicago. Maybe its time for him to relax a lil, and continue with slots here and there with 190 North??

In most markets down South, Doug Banks Morning Show was replaced by Big Boy's Neighborhood on Urban stations. I don't recall Banks getting dropped for Steve Harvey's Morning Show. Steve's show is mainly Urban AC, but when Clear Channel dumped Star and Buckwild, Steve Harvey was quickly added as a replacement on Clear Channel Urbans. Im glad to see Russ Parr still hanging in there because his morning show isn't bad. Now I have to give props to Rickey Smiley's Morning Show because its the perfect mornng "wake up."
