Doug Basham Show Syndication Fails. He'll Remain Local And on The Net

I've noticed a few changes, first of all, Doug Basham has switched back to his old website. He doesn't claim he's syndicated across the country. Instead you can still hear him only KNUU AM 970 and the internet.

Just as I have expected the syndication deal really didn't work out that well since he never really received that many calls outside Las Vegas.

Could it be because........................

NOBODY CARES!

If Doug Basham is so damn good, why hasn't Premiere Radio Network picked this guy up yet?

Just wondering.

Well, then sounds like they are having difficulty with the web site. That happens - no big deal.

What evidence do YOU have to support this vague statement?

since he never really received that many
calls outside Las Vegas.

New shows sometimes do not receive that many calls from outside the reach of the flagship station. The show has received calls from Los Angeles, Texas, etc. + on-air e-mails from all the way from Mt. St. Helens-Washington, to Minnesota, and all the way to New Hampshire...

Re: Basham radio

I don't have any evidence but I have listened to his show since it has begun syndication and yes there are some calls and e-mails but not as much as Doug Stephan, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or any of the other hi-profile talk show hosts.

Most of the program is pure dialogue and I found only about 20 google searches on the net for his program. That's not much for someone who's supposedly has a nationally syndicated program.

It's in it's beginning stages but this has already been tried before by such notales as Mario Cuomo, Ross Perot.

I also found the timing of the show quite awkward. For instance, The Doug Basham is heard from 10PM to 1AM. Most Americans are sleeping or are going to sleep around that time. Most are watching Jay Leno or David Letterman. Also, you don't really pick up ratings at night.

Basham radio would really benefit KNUU AM 970 if it were on during the daytime hours. This would give the bigger talk shows and it's huge audience more competition and increase KNUU ratings during the day. KDWN & KXNT are the two big talkers in Las Vegas. KXNT offers syndicated programming with the exception of Alan Stock & Heidi Harris. KDWN is the only localized talk format during the day.

Hannity, Rush, Dr. Laura, and Savage are the top four talk hosts in terms of 12+ ratings as reported by Talkers magazine with millions of listeners... They have hundreds and hundreds of affiliates compared to dozens and dozens of other national hosts who only have anywhere from half a dozen to 50 affiliates...It takes a long time to get to hundreds of stations...

For someone who is just starting in national syndication, a few dozen web site hits on google is typical...Try some of the other new liberal hosts...

That's not awkward at all. Talk radio is a 24/7/365 business. Coast to Coast AM also begins at 10p Pacific and has millions of listeners as reported by Talkers magazine.

You can get ratings at night - e.g. Coast to Coast AM.

....um....maybe because Coast to Coast AM is a GOOD show perhaps? It has entertainment value? I dunno, I'm just sayin'.

Finally, a voice of reason. NO ONE CARES!!! If a guy goes on the air and no one listens does he make a noise?????? NO. It's amazing that KDWN has any listenership at all...all 3 of their listeners are on radio-info.com.

Now, let's get this room back to more important amusements...like bashing the Fearless Broadcaster...or discussing Star's demise...or how bad Las Vegas radio is...that covers everything doesn't it????

Re: Basham radio

970 should either go business talk...like their phx tation, or lib talk or all news or mostly news... we could use a station like knx, kcbs kgo etc...basham has been mostly war talk.. although when he was on klav kdwn he did other interviews etc that were good...kxnt has such crap on weekends local hosts..basham is far better
