Death, especially tragic and early death, effects some of us in unexpected ways. DeposedMod, don't you have somebody trusted in your life...a minister, doctor or other professional...you can discuss your concerns with privately?

I have to add on to ironbear's thoughts here because Deposed, I did see you post something in another area about wishing one of us on the board dead instead of Doug. At first I chalked it up as someone being very angry and upset...hey I wish Doug COULD be here too. But to wish death upon someone else and talk about getting out of the world and wishing people death better than life....that is VERY scary and I am sure other radio-info posters might have been disturbed by that.

I echo ironbear's thoughts about seeking out professional help. I'm not trying to put you down but the talk you are making is very scary and frankly, even though I don't know you, I am concerned about YOUR well being in this.

Definitely get the professional help and..for your OWN health, keep away from the board until you feel you can come back and post radio and TV again.

I apologize if you feel as if I dissed you...that was NOT my intention. I just want you to feel better and take things in a more positive manner. I believe we all do.

If you want to talk to me...I'm open.

I did not intend to wish anyone on this board dead instead of Doug. I was commenting on how the innocent die while the evil (not this board) live. The evil are dictators, murderers, rapists, the greedy, and low-down scumbags, not people reading this board.

You are correct. If only the people in Nevada, who should be all fired, realized this before they let him die and made our lives seem oh so less significant.

I'd have donated my organs to save him, but they let him become ashes in a urn instead of trying to revive him. Progress marches on.

Personally, I think you're looney. And the more you talk, the loonier you sound!

You do need to talk to someone, either Cab or Tony Santiago. Maybe they can help you tighten up that flickering lightbulb that you have inside your head!

And to Sanders.....Yeah, I get some of what this guy is saying too. But in the course of making his.....Ahem!...."point".....he's also saying some pretty outrageous things.

Thank you for clearing that up. Sure, there are evil people out there but I still don't think anyone...even the bad...deserves to die. When those evil people do succumb, let God handle them.

Dude, I think the family has enough going on and didn't need to see that last sentence. I know your intention but still..... And Sanders, I do agree with your take of this, but if you reread how the original message was posted, you can perhaps understand that something much deeper is happening and for Deposed, I along with a couple of others here are concerned FOR him.

I have said earlier, I am NOT out to bash you Deposed. I just want to help out. But you DO need to talk to someone OUTSIDE of this board. I would think Doug would have felt the same way if you said those comments about another poster and he read your thoughts. If not for yourself...at least for the memory of Doug, you need to get better.

With all due respect, the man obviously is disturbed and troubled.

I seriously doubt name calling will jar him to reality.

He needs some professional help -- something he cannot get here.

But certainly, all of us could try to be understanding, patient and compassionate with him.

I just wanted to say may God bless the Fleming family and all of Doug's friends and bring comfort to them in this difficult time.

This board is a part of my daily routine... I am here at least 20 minutes a day! A big thanks to Doug, a fellow Ham Operator who I might have talked to at one time or another 2 meters since he was from the Chicago area originally.

DISGRACEFUL THREAD!!!!!

This thread is an absolute disgrace and, quite frankly, I am shocked the moderators let it stay.
I believe this threat is to celebrate the life of Mr. Fleming with dignity, respect and admiration and to acknowledge the joy he had given countless people with this creation.
The tone of these threads is tearing down the wonderful testimonies.
Please remove these offensive comments immediately!

Though I appreciate that you obviously feel deeply about this subject, this is probably not the right forum to use in order to air these beliefs. It takes away from the spirit of this thread (which was probably not your intention) and it may even make others uncomfortable. This thread is supposed to be about Doug Fleming. It would be best if we can keep it that way.

In fact, the tone of your posts is somewhat disconcerting. Maybe this is something that you should discuss with someone off-line. Posting material like this here does not help anyone - including you.

Bad things happen to good people every day. It's sometimes tragic but true. But, life is also full of possibilities - every day. Great things happen. And, the world is a huge place full of interesting people. So, let's not have any funny ideas, okay?

I know a little bit about that country, and it is one of the worst places in the lower 48 states in which to have an emergency. Add into that the above-average temperatures of the period and it was a recipe for disaster. In fact, it was difficult to read that story - for it was a horrible thing that happened to Doug. Out there, its not much different than it was in 1860.

And, having an idea where he was, it would seem that he did the smartest and most logical thing in staying by his vehicle. To walk would have been reckless - it would have been too far in that heat. It is so very desolate out there; imagine being in an area the size of a small state, but with NO people and (usually) no water. That's what it's like.

So very sad that no one was in the vicinity to help Doug when he needed help.

We always take it for granted that all will go perfectly fine when we leave home to go somewhere...and 99,999 times out of 100,000 - it does. This was one of those freak things (the one in 100,000) that happened at the worst of all possible times. And, I have nothing else to say because others have already covered the rest.....
 
Hi everyone.

I know most people probably aren't familiar with me, as I post mostly on the Seattle and Oregon boards.

I've been reading this thread in shock along with everyone else over this past week. What I would have to say has already been said by everyone else... I didn't know Doug beyond Radio-Info either, but this is also a huge loss for me as well, as I guess I have him to thank for bringing back Radio-Info from the folks who bought it last year.

Seeing how this thread has unfolded gave me an idea... how about a "Let's Make Radio Better Weekend?" Instead of the posts bashing K-whatever for this and that, ratings companies that don't want their copyrighted data on this site without it having a license, posts berating former PDs and why their former stations failed, the list of examples could go on and on..., why not instead focus for an entire weekend on how we can work together to make radio better - everyone from GMs and owners down to the listeners and "prize pigs?"
I'm not saying 'no criticism for an entire weekend,' I'm just saying out of the million and one ways of suggesting change in radio, let's suggest it by being respectful to everyone and their views... the way constructive criticism should be.

Because none of it has anything to do with the life and death of Douglas Fleming. Nobody's life is more meaningful or meaningless than another.

Actually Doug is probably ashamed that the most read thread on this site is about him. Radio-Info was never about Doug. It was never about myself, Tanim, Sam, or any of the moderators or posters. Radio-Info has and always will be about sharing our passions for radio for the betterment of the medium and industry.

If you think it's better up there, you're missing out on a lot of great things going on down here.

Tom, while I agree that the thread is an absolute disgrace, there is the one thing about Radio-Info which makes it such a pleasure....the opportunity where you can speak and whether or not you agree with an opinion, a post for the most part stays.

There is a New York radio board (I won't mention names) where the person running it is a complete cabal. Unless you have something to offer from the 1960's or talk VERY conservatively, if you put up a post that might be insightful radiowise and he doesn't agree with it because it has nothing to do with his thoughts, he deletes them. I claim the most deletions on that board because while there are those that talk about Hannity and Colmes, Limbaugh, etc...I talk about a dance station ('KTU) where they have NO idea what to say...so they delete me!

Yes, the person is definitely troubled and you have seen the responses from the mods and a couple of us. And while, yes, it is a disgrace to see that...it would have been more disgraceful if the post was there and the next day it was gone.

And as I always say...my opinion :)

From what I've read, Doug seemed to experience those great things on a daily basis. He lived life, he didn't hide from it. Which is why your post (Mod, not Lance) is totally out of place and ignorant.

Again, the e-mail contact is [email protected] if you would like to drop an electronic line to his family. Everyone is welcomed, do not be shy to express yourself and the joyous memories you shared with Doug, and if you never met Doug, simply what you feel and want to share.
