DOUG GOSSETT FIRED FROM CITADEL

The chief engineer had been with Barnstable/Citadel for over twenty years. His special brand incompetence was ignored by two decades of mangaers and owners. We wish him well.

Well, Mr. Bogus…that’s just lovely. You feel better now, taking a [EDIT] parting shot at someone who just lost his lifelong career and may not be young enough to have anywhere else to go?

Did that boost your ego? Tell me, have YOU held the same job for 20 years? If so, you might recall Doug spent a large portion of his life caring for an invalid wife to the exclusion of all else except his job.

I’d continue, but the moderators would edit it as soon as it posted. Suffice it to say I find your screen name particularly appropriate.

[EDIT-profanity]

Sorry to hear that news, he was the man around there. Everyone I know that worked with him has had nothing but nice things to say about him.

I don't know if it's possible to have someone tossed from here, but if not, it seems like now would be a good time to start with the Bogus one.

Doug is an accomplished professional, and has dealt with challenges most of us can't imagine; as someone who worked with him, I'm part of the chorus with nothing but nice things to day about him.

Doug is high on the list of "nice guys". He spent all of his time caring for the stations and his wife.

I HATE to hear that he is gone from KIX, etc.

I wish Doug all the best.

It's never good to hear that someone has been fired. I don't know the fellow, but having been in engineering on the long side of 30 years, I'd say he must have done something right to have lasted 20 years in the same gig. With so many engineers leaving the business (myself included) it's hard to imagine who they think they're going to find to replace him. I'm certainly not going back into broadcasting.

I didn't know Doug well, but I did meet him once and talked to him a couple of times when I worked for Citadel. From everything I know he was a good guy and a great engineer.

bogus-boy... get a life.

I'm not heading back to broadcasting any time soon either, and this is one of the reasons. Good engineers are not appreciated and are not compensated for the tireless hours they spend away from their families and friends to keep everyone else's asses out of the fire (because if your station is off the air, it is not making money. No money = no jobs).

I don't know the circumstances surrounding his termination, but whatever they are, I wish Doug the best.

Well said and dead on.

However, some of the more professional air staff do appreciate the engineering department...I have been the recipient of several compliments of late for my time at FM 100...most recently from Olson, Conley, and Presto...funny, they've all been bashed here as well.

When I first started at 98, I wasn't sure what to make of Doug, but, as we got to know each other, he realized that I wasn't trying to cause trouble and I realized that he was one of the most helpful guys I'd ever run across. When we wanted to work on the audio processing (a subject that has caused more than one engineer I've worked with to get his back up), he helped me figure out exactly how to get what we wanted out of what we had to work with. Same with the studio setup. We didn't have a lot of budget to work with, but we got it done. Doug, hope all is well.

This business is amazing in its lack of farsightedness.
