Doug Gottlieb posssible on the Fan starting next year

Doug Gottlieb will be leaving ESPN in a few weeks and will accept an offer from CBS to be one of their new faces on college basketball and will also have a daily radio show. CBS has already announced they plan to have a Sportsradio network. I wonder where he will fit in the rotation and if he will be carried on the Fan. When the new network comes on the air I think one of the local shows will be removed and replaced with one of CBS' programs. I can't see the Fan being all local from 6 am - midight next year.

In all honestly, I wouldn't mind Basken and Phelps being replaced. Their show is so slow.

Well if it is for their national feed I don't think anyone will be replaced. I would imagine he will be sometime during the day though

Throwing on a national show in that time slot would be essentially raising the white flag to The Really Big Show. If I remember correctly though all of the 92.3 personalities signed one year contracts, so it will be interesting to see what changes occur next month. One thing I would keep an eye on is Ken Carman. They have used him in every single time slot as a fill in guy, if I were the type to visit the Horseshoe Casino I would put some money down on him not doing that 7pm to midnight shift come September.

Also it seemed that Bull was running solo today in the afternoon, and he sounds much better that way in my opinion. He sounds more at ease and natural without a side-kick.

It all depends on the timeslot.

If CBS Sports Radio puts Gottlieb in AMD or PMD, then The Fan probably won't carry him, as they'd wanna stay local in those slots. If CBSSR puts him in middays or evenings, then maybe 92.3 would air his show.

I see Doug Gottlieb as more of a satellite market - filler guy. Maybe he airs in the Toledos and Youngstowns of the world. I don't see anyone breaking from local on CBS to carry him.

Agreed.

The major market CBS sports stations like to keep things live and local throughout the day and evening.

But he's perfect for smaller cities like Toledo or Youngstown that don't have a lot of local talk. I can see him airing there, along with some regional stuff from Cleveland as well as Detroit (for Toledo), or Pittsburgh (for Youngstown).

IIRC, Gottlieb's CBS show will be afternoon drive, 3-6 PM ET.

They won't be airing it anywhere on the large market full-time stations, let alone supplanting Bull & Fox for it...think, people!

:D

(Or Baskin & Phelps with whatever they air in middays on the network.)

CBS Radio's large market sports stations, including The Fan, are live/local full-time, well into the night.

I wouldn't be surprised to see "The Fabulous Sports Babe"'s overnight show (1-6 AM) supplanting FSR and other network feeds on those stations in January, tho. She's starting as a local host on the Tampa "Fan" station.

But Gottlieb on ANY of the big market CBS Radio sports talkers? Nope. It's all about the live and local...

Fabulous Sports Babe on tape delay? That worked really well at WKNR in the late 90s. Lets hope that 92.3 has the common sense not to put that garbage on the air.

I think "Sports Babe" will be live overnights once CBS Sports Radio starts rolling at the first of the year.

The Fan may not have a choice in whether it airs "Sports Babe" as all CBSSR stations will have to carry some network programming, and it ain't gonna be during the day on 92.3...that's for sure.

I heard that 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston is having to carry the Sports Babe, so I wouldn't be surprised if The Fan has to as well.

Yes, she is on live 1-6 AM in Tampa, supposedly as a local only show right now, but you'd have to think she'll clear live 1-6 AM ET on the CBS sports radio stations that are carrying other networks now - like FSR on The Fan locally.

No, not tape delay...live in overnights supplanting other network inventory on the large market CBS sports stations that aren't doing live and local overnights....for example, the Babe will likely not be heard on WFAN in NYC.
