Anyone know what Doug Hoerth is up to these days? Rumors went around that he was entertaining ideas such as going to satellite radio, internet radio, or was going to write a book after he left 1360. I was just curious to know what he is doing now days or if he is still in the area.
 
He said he was done with radio. In one of the obits for Laurence Gaines, it was reported that Hoerth threw away a lot of his tapes.
 
Aww, that is really sad he did that. That is what Jack Paar did when he got out of television...he gave recordings of his shows to his garbage man. Doug, back in his day, was a good broadcaster, its ashame he didn't hold onto those if not for himself, but for people to enjoy.
 
He hosted a one shot oldies internet radio broadcast and considered writing a book, but I think opted not to. He was one of the people who did a eulogy at Laurence Gaines's funeral and he did throw away some of the tapes of his show, some of the others, including some of the ones with him and Laurence he kept. Last I had heard however was that he was fairly content in retirement and had no plans or offers to get back into broadcasting.
 
I do hope that Doug will reconsider. I was really looking forward to reading his book.
 
Would love to have him do his roundtable show on the weekend somewhere, if there's a station that he hasn't burned his bridges at. Maybe 104.7?
 
I'm not even sure Hoerth is living in Pittsburgh anymore.

I read on a message board post- and I realize that's a dubious source- that he had moved to New Jersey and had found a woman.

I can tell you that Doug Hoerth would be very tough to get out of his shell.

I can also tell you that if Hoerth had as many listeners as he has supporters on the internet he would never have been let go.
 
I listened to Doug for years and really enjoyed his interviews. The one he had with Alan King was a classic. When he had Tom Poston and Tim Conway on I had to pull over I was laughing so hard.

But somewhere he lost it, maybe after that morning show he did or when his hearing went bad or when he got divorced. But his show turned into the same old same old. Too much talk about the same topic, usually The Godfather.

I'd love to see him back on the air as the Old Uncle Dougie.
 
I was on his show years ago and talked to him a little after that. I wish he had an email address or somewhere I could write to him. Any of you know if he has an email address?

Good for him if he met a woman. I wish I could of remembered him in the 1980s when he was at his peak. I was pretty young then so the only thing I remember clearly was when he was on 1360 and his show was great but it seemed to have lost its steam towards the end of his radio career.
 
I think the problem with his 1360 show toward the end was that he had put too many restrictions on himself. He wasn't going to talk about politics, he wasn't going to do interviews, he wasn't going to talk about this, about that, etc. That's the sign of someone who is burned out and maybe could see the writing on the wall. Still would love to hear him do 3 hours or so on weekend somewhere.
 
Doug realy hit his stride at WTAE in the early 90s when he was doing afternoon drive. He is perhaps the absolute best interviewer I have ever heard on the radio. Also funny as hell at times. I reacall him playing a tape of an hour he did with the late Bob Prince that just put me away. To bad he dosen't want to do radio anymore. I thought of him last June when the Pens were making there run. He must have loved it.
 
I have to disagree..I don't think Doug was a jerk in that vidio at all. I do think that cable tv show he was on in that clip was like a saturday night live sketch but that wasn't Dougs falt.
 
I loved his oldies show. He did a dead on BMR. I e-mailed him my picture once, so he knows what I look like. For those of you who are dying to see me (right)--------ask Doug bout the Grandma from Tampa.
 
I wish I could find out if he had an email address or something. I got to know him a little bit about four years ago. I would love to see how he is doing.
 
I was there at the beginning of his career before he came to Pittsburgh. It was an interesting way to kick things off and the story has been told many times I'm sure.

Doug was a true fan of radio, he gets it and had a passion for it. I remember we went to see American Hot Wax together.

Moving to Pittsburgh was probably the best thing he ever did for his career. I doubt with the transient population of South Florida he could have gained enough traction to matter much. So in a way Pittsburgh made Doug's career, right place, right time. He owes that to Mike Harvey of "SuperGold" fame. Mike brought Doug with him to WWSW from WFTL Fort Lauderdale.
