I find it easier to figure out where you're going in Pittsburgh than I do in flat terrains, that's for sure.

A couple of counties out in the Toledo area have their roads set up on a grid system.
North-South roads are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5....
East-West roads are lettered A, B, C, D, E.....

From there on it's just one big game of Battleship (come pick me up, I live at E-7)

That sort of grid system isn't at all uncommon in flat parts of the midwest and even beyond. My wife's family is from Indiana, and in most of the state, once you get outside the cities and towns, the county roads are simply designated "700 E" or "1200 N" or what have you, usually spaced one mile apart. If someone lives at 650 W. 1200 N, you know they're on the east-west road 12 miles north of the center of the county (usually the county seat) and 6.5 miles west of the center line.

If you ever get the chance to visit Salt Lake City and vicinity, you'll see that system writ large: everything in the area, including city streets downtown, follows a similar grid system. The KSL "Broadcast House" studios are at 55 N 300 W, three blocks west and half a block north of Temple Square. (The locals would call it "55 North Third West.")

That may be the most off-topic post in the history of the board.

I thought the connection was pretty clear.

Uncle Dougie broke into radio in Florida...

Florida is flat...

Lots of mid-western states are flat...

Mid-western states use a grid system for naming streets and roads.

And sooooo, the connection would be.... ?

I think it fits perfectly.

But then again I spend my days exchanging baseball trivia questions with Jim Haller.

Who was the guy who did Three Stooges trivia?

See! Now that's an answer Doug Hoerth would have given!

If it wasn't so tasteless, I'd advance the question "Did Doug Hoerth fake his own death?" Jfrancis seems to be a pretty new poster, sooooooooo . . . .

Then again, I think Hoerth would have loved it!

No but I remember the night he said on KDKA that Paul Shannon was dead, only to have
Shannon call him from Florida and set him straight. Classic!
