Doug Layton certainly gained notoriety when he and his on-air sidekick Tommy Charles began a boycott of Beatles' records on WAQY in Birmingham in 1966. However, he also gained fame from his time on several other Birmingham stations, including WYDE, WBRC/WERC, WSGN and WAPI. For fans of Alabama Crimson Tide athletics, he will always be remembered the many years he spent as the color analyst on their football broadcasts and as the play-by-play announcer for their basketball broadcasts.
