Doug Limerick is a legend

Perhaps it's odd to be a fan of an announcer who does hourly radio network news, but I have to say that my wife and I are big fans of Doug Limerick on ABC News at the top of the hour usually weekday mornings. I listen every morning on our local news/talk station that uses ABC hourly news. When you hear his commanding voice, you know it's NEWS and you should sit up and listen. But I think the guy also has a sense of humor because he usually ends his five-minute newscasts with a soft, humorous 10 second story, and usually tosses in a sarcastic little line at the tail end about the story. Out of all the hourly network news readers on the radio networks like ABC, CBS, Fox News Radio, IRN/USA Radio Network, FSN, etc., Doug is the best! If anyone knows him, pass it along.

I love Doug Limerick. He's kind of a throwback to the news anchors on Top 40 radio stations in the 60s and 70s, who mostly read the news straight, but entertained by being dramatic and theatrical. Most had a booming bass-baritone voice. In LA , we had guys like J. Paul Huddleston, Marv Howard, Averill Berman, and Paul Oscar Anderson. I understand that Limerick comes from that background - WABC in the 70s, perhaps?

Doug Limerick always seemed to be the "Voice Of Doom" anchoring the ABC network news in the late '90s (I called him that because every story he read back then was bad news.) Over time he balanced out his story material to not sound so gloomy. But even today, whenever I hear his voice, I have to brace myself.....
