Doug Limerick loses voice during 7 a.m. newscast

I gotta say that Doug Limerick, who does the 5 minute newscasts on ABC radio affiliates at the top of the hour in the morning is a consummate professional. The guy sounds like he's got a wry sense of humor with some of the lighter stories he does at the tail end of the newscast if there's leftover time. Now this morning during the 7 a.m. newscast, the always articulate and perfectly dictated Limerick lost his voice midway! But the way he handled it was great. He cut the mic real quick. Came back. Tried to read another story. Lost his voice again. Said "I gotta go get some water!!" and went to commercial. I cracked up laughing. I know in radio we're always taught not to bring mistakes to the listeners attention. But when something like losing your voice happens, you gotta say something and make light of it. He handled it perfectly, to the point that the local radio affiliate morning show team had fun joking about it after the news and commended him for coming out of it so well. Doug is a pro! His newscasts are the best.

Itshay happens. Even to the best of us. But it's how you roll. That HUMAN touch ALWAYS makes for GREAT radio....

There was a newscaster named Doug
Who, while reading, had inhaled a bug

It got lodged in his throat
He could not speak a note

So he went for some water to chug

Well, here's a quote from the old "Tomfoolery" cartoon show on NBC.

"Fiddle dee foddle dee!
That makes good sense!
Good old nonsense!
Fiddle dee foddle dee!
Ladies and gents!
Pennies are pence to me!"

What do you think about that?!
