Down memory lane folks

Cliches like"He gets it" are enduring terms because they ring true… And there is much more shrewish back biting than “at a boying” going on this board.

But seriously, if you would like me to explain what “getting it” means I will happily give you a detailed definition. After all “I get it”.

Louie

PS. You don’t need to drink any hemlock but try some nice herbal tea and calm down.

Louie-

I get what I get it means...yes, I get it...tea huh? See, now THAT is funny!

How do I find out if I'm one of the special people who GET IT? I mean do I not GET IT because I am asking if I GET IT? Is there a book to read or a test to take?? I want to GET IT if I don't.
GET IT?

BSBoy

The fact that you are wondering if you “get it” and want to learn more about “getting it”; Means you got it.
So now that you know you “got it” Go out and get going with “it” .

As for me… I have better ways to avoid doing anything productive. Like a TiVo full of unwatched [adult swim] cartoons.

Warmest regards,

Louie

But my nostalgic friends heed this prophecy… the winds of change are blowing… And the people who “get it” will be a rare and valuable commodity in the broadcast industry. Brace yourself and prepare for respect and a fair wage.
Bring back the aluminum discs with the cactus needles! ;)

Don’t know if this was your intention But you post was kind of cryptic … Pleases to elaborate.

KG -
What? It's not like that anymore? Hummm, you remember here is kinda is.... (Since it really wasn't all that long ago that you left...)
Always,

I was inspired by this post, though I only experienced a portion of it in my past 20 or so years. So after finding a few reel to reel tapes in the back of a filing cabinet - I decided to put them on the desk of my PD (we'll just say he's young enough to probably never have used them) and put a note on them saying they were airchecks that had just been mailed in. Actually I'd love to hear what's on them, but the machines are, I believe, mothballed.

I’ll bet WDEV has Reel to Reels still wired into one of their production boards. You should give them a call. They have microphones like you see in the news reels in the lobby. It’s really is like a broadcasting museum… very cool stuff.

Louie

Thanks Am, (rvgproduction.)
I mentioned in a different thread that the station you work at was still using a turntable for specialty shows and even sometimes on the PM show. I did it in the afternoon, and as you said, it wasn't that long ago and I got to play some good stuff I would find in the basement. Good to hear from you! For therealvoice, Grab those tapes as quick as you can and convert them to mp3. Might find something cheap on e-bay for a tape deck. For the record collectors, there's even a turntable with a usb on the market. It comes with something almost, but not quite as close as Adobe. It takes out pops and other vinyl noise.

Hey RV:

I've got a working reel to reel email me and we'll work out the details.

I was talking to the good folks at Champlain Radio Group about doing a little consulting work. When WLFE’s beloved GG Griggs passed on. I was asked to help out and obliged. GG was a remarkable man and his listeners have warmly welcomed me. I’m am enjoying being a fish out water, gently goofing around. But while I am there, I’ am going to embrace the job. GG did a lot in the community and I’m going to keep it going.

It’s an unexpected direction (As surprising as an emu wearin’ britches) but I’m going to roll with it. It feels right… Also they run a good shop, there is a friendly vibe, they’re open to ideas; and there’s a lot of talent walking around the building. Color me impressed (I’m to old to blow smoke)

I may not yet know what “boot scoot” means …but it sure sounds fun.

Whatever, wherever

Hey Loui,
Yeah - we do have a reel to reel hooked into my board as well as a turn table. (It's Amy and yes WDEV...)
in fact - we have turned the other half of my studio into broadcast museum. Too bad I far too slammed to enjoy it...
KG - always nice to hear from you... (will see you for the race thing???)
and LM - I read the thing you gave me... :)

Louie:

Nothing cryptic, no hidden messages. A previous post in this thread I mentioned the old acetate discs. That along with aluminum discs preceeded reel-to-reels and carts...never mind all the digital stuff we use today. I believe acetate and aluminum recordings were commonly referred to back in the day as "ET's" - Electronic Transcriptions. I've worked in this business with folks who actually used aforementioned. I've been in this racket for 18 years. Some say I have 18 years experience. I believe I've beaten the system for 18 years ;D. Take your work seriously, don't take yourself seriously. GET IT? ;) I do. :)

I do get it… But not as often as I use to

Louie,

You'll never believe it - I found a working reel to reel in the back storage room as I was looking for a spare mic cord to take on a remote. I don't even think anyone knew it was there - it was behind the amazing glow in the dark bracelets to announce the 'new' show called Supernatural on the CW. I think these must have been sitting in here for at least five or six years...

So yeah - tell us about this new gig that everyone's talking about!

Don’t know if it’s proper board etiquette to quote my own self But imagine me saying this Sam Elliot style (as in The Big Labouski) “This old silver-back is on the northern side …of an upward tide”

I stand by these original words… and then some

Who knows which way the road will bend… But right now…. I’m having a freaking blast!

The one that made me laugh the most was answering your home phone with the stations call letters. When I was working overnights, the phone rang at home during sleep time (2:00pm) and I answered with the call letters and it turned out to be the radio station calling me to ask about a spot I produced. Very weird at the time, but very funny today. Thanks Ken.

“Bullhorn” Bill Shane!

It’s ironic that 80’s Freak is your moniker. Because whenever I hear the “80s” being discussed, a powerful iconic image comes to mind… You, wiping down the hood of your golden Firebird during a “club mix” of The Human League.

Show me a DJ with a cool car… and I’ll show you a dude with 14 roommates. I’m glad you’re still out there :)

Let’s catch up.

Manno…. from The Fun 102 days.
