Down To Two, Maybe Three!

So,...why is it that Big FM stations are now...Down To Two, Maybe Three...Announcers?

Money! The evening and overnight shifts were never big moneymakers for most stations. In fact, even today and even fully automated, most stations barely make enough to cover their expenses of staying on in the overnight! The only reasons they've ever bothered to stay on in the overnight were to provide a lead-in for the 7 AM to 8 AM hour, when first shifters are going to work and third shifters are going home, and to keep wear and tear from turning the transmitter on and off to a minimum.

Plus, most stations are billing 20-25% less than what they billed four years ago. I don't believe those figures were adjusted for time, which would make the money lost even worse in real dollars. Station values are far lower than they were four years ago, which means many operators owe more on their properties than they're worth.

Put them together, and you have the perfect recipe for what's happening!

Well,...over 200 views, in order to find out...just what...in the Flyin' Fudgecake....that Scootamus Maximus now has on his mind! Over 200, with only Think Tank member "Kent", to chime-in with his brillant Post-o-truth. "Kent" sez "MONEY"! Ehhhh,...how 'bout "LACK OF MONEY"! We will again rephrase..."NO MONEY"! I've got several Boobs on one of my other Topics that don't..."CAN'T" understand FAILURE...or the Looooooosin' your Ass in...what was once a money makin' business!
WESC let John Crenshaw go, leaving them down to only two: Charlie Muson & John Landrum.
WSPA let their Morning Team go, leaving them down to only two: Lee Alexander & Stacie Bartrow,
+plus John Tesh tellin' everyone how stupid they are...if they do this...or don't that!
WROQ let Brian Blades go, leaving them down to only two: Mark Hendrix & Stoneman.
WMYI let Bill Love go, leaving them down to two: Marne Mason & Liz Rhyals, and then they hire Zac Morgan to head Mornings, and he's about as worthless as tits on a Bore Hog!
WTPT(The Planet) still maintains Awww-ful weekend left-overs that now squeak a full-time check.
Hmmmmmmmm? Does any of this smack of success?

i know the cc stations fill in shifts with dee jays voice tracking from other markets so the people who are in greenville do not have extra long shifts

Well,...I didn't more than finish Supper(for you Northern readers, that's the evening meal):
A 10-ounce Sirloin, Broiled Oysters, and New Castle,...while-st enjoying a DVD episode of Xena, season two. Nothing against Hercules, but I'm trying to figure-out how to transform myself into that little blond girl. Hmmmmmmmmmmm?
Checkin' the Topic, I find newcomer, jovialjay, has added a rather perky post. It has nothing to do with the subject of discussion, but we'll spare him the size 12 boot. Apparently, I have misspelled a word. Now, I greatly appreciate your annal-litical eye, but before you start crowing that you've done something, let me pee in your Cherios, with a common understanding. 99% of everyone that looms on this board knows me well,...not for spelling, but misspelling,...Gowging anything Gammatically correct, Pummeling anything Politically correct, and otherwise, saying out loud what others are only quietly thinking. The brutal honesty of the Truth! However, your perky-ness, along with the skill of running a tight board, you might make a good CHR Announcer. It's up to you to find that placement. Also, while I was enjoying said sirloin, Freqdev, chimed-in again with a post that made about as much sense as...(JJ this is for you>)...tits on a "Boar" Hog!

I know we all hate what radio has become or not become. Truth is money is tight for everyone now and media has not been left out. Also there is a technology angle to look at. I don't care what these surveys say about 90% or more people listening to radio during the course of a week, the fact is services like pandora and spotify are gaining. People are finding other ways to listen to music.

there will always be an unhappiness with music delivery no matter who is choosing the songs or artists and no matter how cutting edge the app is. nothing is free. even the digital world has figured that out.

Easily, I both thank, and agree with ncscradiogeek. His post echos what alotta us have said, and still stand with...(Terr/Commercial)Radio listenership is in a coma, and all the lies ain't helping!
I don't use it that often, but Pandora is amazing. At home, I still play vinyl LP's; both old & new.
I guess I kinda like-ta watch'em...Go Around! If you have a decent turntable, purchase & give a spin to the latest YES studio LP, "Fly From Here". The new 180gram virgin vinyl pressings are what all LP's could have/should have been...The Best Sound Ever! Away from the house, I always tote a freshly charged ipod,...outta Self Defence! If I want to memic ROQ, I just punch in Skynyrd, Floyd,
Zeppelin, Boston,...and put it on repeat,....and...Whaaaaaaa--Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!
Instant-Q!

Techonolgy does change things and radio is no different, but I do remember people saying that Betamax would wipe out VHS recorders, Apple could do more than Windows and take over, Satellite TV would kill Cable TV, so I guess for radio the more things change the more they stay the same.
