Downfall of KFI???

KFI is doing just fine. There is no evidence the station is going down the tubes. Where else are all those angry WASPs going to go? Piolín?

BTW, I podcast the show from Cleveland. You guys don't know how good you got it.

Not the downfall, just a poor programming decision that will crash in the next several months. Bill Handel has a poor attendance record. Witness the first week his noontime show started. He took 1½ days off. Last week, he took a couple of days off from the morning show.. His trend is will be 36 extra days off this next upcomming year, and that doesn''nt include his normal vacations and holidays.

It is a fact that 40-70% of the listening audience twist the dial when the star of the show is off the air. wayne resnick is 4th rate. Tim conway is a
shyster and Carolla did not fit in at all. You could hear a pin drop.
But the main thing is the advertisers pay top dollar for audience exposure and if the star is off, the audience ain't there either. The advertisers are ripped off.

Mr. Arbitron

I don't know how you can say that Wayne is 4th rate. Actually he is better than 9-10ths of what is the rest of talk radio in LA now that Doug McIntyre is gone and Larry Elder has been off. I have to admit that Carolla was a train wreck filling in for Bill but at least he wasn't Bryan Suits. Tim Conway was good as always and all talk hosts are to some degree shysters, read Ziegler's "The Real KFI blog site" where he tells the real story. You can be a shyster and entertaining at the same time plus get ratings, think John and Ken and the venerable Rush Limbaugh.

Back to Wayne Resnick, in my opinion of all the fill in hosts on KFI he is the absolute best and I think at times he is better than Bill himself. I have been a Handel listener for many years and if you could get airchecks over the years I believe that there is a definite decline in his shows. He is not as biting and witty as before so to me Wayne is a breath of fresh air when Bill is off.

But no matter how bad you think you have it where I am now the local morning show really makes anything there appear great, just check this one: http://www.kbizam.com/ Maybe they can get Carolla, he would fit in and shine.

Beck may be doing an act, but it is a sick, vile one. If the rest of Fox "News" appeals to the lowest common denominator (extreme-rightist birthers, haters, bigots, deathers, tea-baggers, jingoists, fools) Beck is somewhere down in the recovering-boozer sewer. He is an embarrassment to 12-step!

I agree-I listen online to Mr. Handel back east here in Atlanta after 8AM local time.  Besides, I don't think
KFI is going anywhere soon, since they are the #1 overall station in LA, which is quite a feat for a SoCal
AM radio station.

I have to step in and support Handel. I really like the guy and he may be my all time favorite host. The reason I like him is because of his quirky personality. He is not afraid of admitting that he is "damaged goods" and frequently talks about it and even more frequently jokes about it. I love how he constantly rips himself, marjorie and his family. He really is quite refreshing amongst the other ego bloated hosts who think they are the only one who knows what is right about the world and they have some mandate to tell everyone else about it. More importantly I like the entertainment value that Handel provides. No one can deny that he is a solid entertainer.

I generally don't listen when he is not on since none of his sub's can even come close to the show he does.

You don't get it or you are just an Ombama hypnotized example of why America is in the toilet. Beck is one of the highest rated programs on Fox and FOX news ratings in all segments far exceed those of the other Cable News channels by a lot. Maybe a part of the reason the radio and television are suffering is that they are not providing programming for the majority. I do not think that I am any of the things that you so lovingly describe but I have learned enough about basic economics to know that Beck is putting out a lot of truth. That is not to say that he is always correct but his ideas need airing and it is a shame that LA does not get his radio show.

The problem I have with shows like John and Ken or Limbaugh is that while they are often highly entertaining they tend to attract the less desirable elements that you have enumerated. Those are not the people we need to make change, just as we don't need the leftest extremists either. What talk radio could do it provide a platform for the exchange of real ideas which in these critical times we desperately need if America is to remain a Democratic Republic. If it can also be entertaining is a plus so I support Glenn Beck and Bill Handel for doing that.

Hey guys...lighten up. It's just radio. You act like these hosts have a direct pipeline to your brain stem. They're laughing all the way to the bank.

No direct pipeline to my brainstem and I have listened to liberal and conservative from Ed Schultz to Michael Savage. The easiest to take and most listenable are admittedly the most entertaining ones. Dennis Prager for instance presents an intelligent and logical discourse but is a bit dry to the average listener so his ratings could never be as high as Rush or Bill Handel. The danger is for that some people, not inclines to personal research, that the more entertaining hosts may not always present the best information. That is why in the end it is up to each of us to do our own investigation and not just take spoon fed information from the guru of the moment. I hope that makes my point clear, I am not advocating for one and only one but I do believe that some important voices are bring left out for the LA market and that makes some of the choices by KFWB a bit disturbing, they could have chosen much better (IMHO) if they were selecting only from the syndication smorgasbord.

KFI given their history and the great signal has a big advantage and the lesser signals can never overcome them unless they do falter badly. They could be overexposing Handel but their recent experiments with Tim Conway and Adam Carolla may be exploratory expeditions for potential replacement of part of that deluge. The problem is that for me the most enjoyable Handel is the off the cuff version in the 5 to 6am hour which logically what may be lost if a replacement is chosen.

You want to talk poor attendance? I refer you to San Diego's recently-departed Jef & Jer, who infuriated listeners by being taking off one week out of every six for their contract-mandated vacations. Now THAT is poor attendance. Handel's a piker compared to them.

Hands down the poor attendance prize goes to Howard Stern. For someone who said he was starting a revolution to descimate terrestrial radio, the truth was he collected his big fat paycheck and then duped his listeners into PAYING for a 4 day a week show, with an additional 12 weeks of vacation.

When every other hosts takes a day off for Memorial day or those single day holidays, Howard always takes the full week off. For the entire month of August he only broadcasts about 5 new shows.

Some Revolution.
