downloading music:

Downloading the music:

the file sharing issue, both sides are 'always right'...

the down-for-free-loaders, see it as, an 'everyone is
doing it'; versus,
Buying/Supporting the music..because (as posted/threaded earlier)
it helps show the geniune interest in the format/genre....
*ANd, you are willing to PAY to show that support....(which is cooL : )

------------------->However,

where it directly comes into play w/ dance music:
what happens, when u want a song, u simply can't get -

with newly released material from....hilary duff; u2; mariah,
system of a down, merely ANYONE..it becomes domestically available...for purchase Sooner or later!! Either in the form of a movie soundtrack,
greatest hits-remixed; forthcoming album, etc etc..

Well, what about a dance song that is truely "unheard of" ??
is it cool to download it/for your own enjoyment...?
Considering purchasing it, is almost not an option, as your intentions
would be to buy it because you WANT it..and/or, going to a
smaller specality store, and paying $17 for a 3-track single..
because you WANT -that song-

(oh, of those three songs..one mix is the mix u NEEd (call it the 7"mix)

and, then other 2 are either 'the words only' or the candlelight mix;
-OR- instead of a slow moving mix, one of the three songs..is the
tribal mix..repeating just the one or two words of the refrain set
to a 1-2 alternating non stop beat for about eight minutes..

oh, that third track on the CD-single:
the 12" mix -which sounds *ALMOST EXACTLY* like the 7'mix..but it's two
seconds longer..

OKAY...
soo for all the peeps on this board..
is this song, acceptable to d/load..and by-pass showing your
$upport for it ???

(PS: The songs that make this list specifically for this post/thread are...
those one hit singles, that *YOU PERSONALLY Enjoy* but
are gone before they hit*
A few come to mind:
-
that 'fast cars -like to f-- in fast cars song'
( i have NO Idea where to get that one, or even who sings it).
-
any new material from DJ TATANA
-
new "AVENTURA"
-
Original 3 / next 'hit'
-
etc,etc...

-or-
Finding a song, early, unaware of the success it may bring...
ie: having DHT "listen..." say, in october 2004. )

*Again, this is not finding the mainstream dance..this is the
kind of music, u hear ( while out Supporting your dance-club)
and, u ask the DJ "WOW" what is that ? he tells you, and
even google can't find it...
FootNote/for arguements sake: the dj had it on vinyl, and HE paid for it.

I ask again:

At that point, is it "COOL" ( legal ??? who cares..) but is it
"COOL" (from a dance fans perspec) to download that new BT song, simply cuz u cant get it elsewhere and YOU WILL NOT be able to afford to keep
paying $15-20 for a 'cd-single?' every time u *Want* your new fave song..

(or get 'stuck' with a 12-track CD, but 11 songs suck!!) and u
just got it for 'that one song' !! and to find out - its not the
mix u wanted anyway... lol / how many people, esp. pre-1996 did that one??!!
haha.

In terms of legality, it's never legal. Support what you can buy though, I've bought best of trance volume 5[a compilation], and it was worth the money.
Although who can blame you when the edits you hear on the radio arn't ever released on cd[only released promo]. Dht is a bad example of that one IMO lol
October 2004? I was listening to dht - listen to your heart back in summer 2004 sometime![ah maxima]
btw: I would never buy a single. It's a waste of money for one mix of a song. I guess I'm part of the new generation... lol
Plus my tastes are more of an non mainstream taste, although I love the mainstream, Always keep your ears open! lol

Maxima sounds about right, as Maxima FM is one of Spain's leading Dance stations:

Everyone who downloads music will find a way to justify it. I get paid next week but got to have it now...the world revolves around me...

If it's a promo - that means it is not for the general public and 2 listener internet stations. It's for the broadcast industry to promote the song, create buzz and get you interested in wanting the song.

If DJ (insert your favorite bootlegger name here) does a mix that's not an official mix released by the record label, they most likely didn't have the rights to the copyrighted material to distribute it anyway. Some labels care, others don't. Some good stuff comes out of this area that gets picked up by the label. Usually because influential DJ's start playing the mix, not because (insert your name here) had to have it so you DL it.

Call me old, but I remember a time when if I didn't have a song...I didn't have a song. I would search for it, but never went into a store at took a cd just because I had to have it.

We live in the 'NOW' - there's nothing wrong with waiting a couple of weeks if that's how long it takes to get a legit copy.

Bottom line...it says a lot about a person's morals who downloads. It just doesn't seem as illegal when it's only a few bucks. Who am I hurting. I know if I can find a my dream car - I'm just going to take it - after all it's hard to find - and the owner can just use their insurance to get another one. Who am I hurting.

DHT/2004

DHT
??Summer of 2004,
wow...that was just an example of early that song may have
been out..i didnt think it was over a year already...Wow..

Fast Cars

The group is Hellbent.

On the topic of hard to find songs, haven't I said this before when I talked about R1? How will the influence of R1 affect local records and what is no longer an import? In dance, there are no imports because....we don't listen to local dance radio...because there is no local dance radio. My local dance radio is Sirius & BBC R1. Neither is local to my house in Waterloo, Canada...but it's sure local to me.

I believe in buying records. The massive collection of music all over my house (and my wifes never ending bitching) will attest to that. But...I do agree. If i can't buy it for a reasonable price, why WOULDN'T you download it? Even if that download is wrong.

Long ago, before iTunes was Canadian, I was trying to find a way to buy off the American site. I couldn't figure it out (must be an American credit card, cause my American address didn't work). BUT...I thought to myself...here I am..trying to "crack" software....so I could BUY SOMETHING LEGALLY.

If that doesn't say that something is wrong with the recording industry, then nothing will.

This is a global world now, with global media, the internet etc....yet records and their licencing are still living in the 70's. Time to change guys...for the listener, the music lover AND your bottom line.

It's the only business I've ever had deny me a sale because of where I lived.
