What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports is a goin' on in the head of the Dudeboss? A KFWhyEye Smackdown in the middle of July? And only two permanent hosts to spar? Nurse Jeff and I can only image how windy it'll be when the Nearly Bald One steps into the ring with J.D. Loudmouth. YIKES! This station has been downsized to the point of ridiculousness and the 7/14 Smackdown is evidence of how much the Valley's Talk Station has been decimated by a bunch of bean counters!

Downsized Smackdown

I went to a Smackdown at Arriba Mexican Grill in Scottsdale on 29 August 2002. Got there early, around 2:30 PM. Was the first person there. It started filling up around 3:45 and had a good crowd by 5:00. I stayed until 6:30 and had a great time.
I got a t-shirt, which hangs in my closet and I haven't worn it in years. This is who signed it:

IWRC....Jacobs was doing XTRA 9~Ten weekdays and a weekend shift on KFWhyEye. It was from his weekend shift that the Chickboss moved Jacobs to AMD after deciding not to renew Bill Heywood's contract. After the switcheroo, Heidi Fogelsong did fluff features during the week for KFWhyEye and handled a weekend shift until her contract ran out. So yes, entirely possible to have a t-shirt signed by all the 5~Fifty talkers referenced. (reader disclaimer - Dr Akbar 'n Nurse Jeff admit to having fuzzy memories after seven years of self medication.)

More of my memories of this time is that Bruce Jacobs came back to Phoenix and did Jacobs After Dark on KGME. I didn't like him because he replaced J.T. The Brick nationally syndicated show. Bruce then moved to morning on KGME with Vince Marotta.
Bob Mohan was doing the 8-Rush Limbaugh shift when something happened between him and management. Mohan was moved to 2-3 PM. Charles Goyette did from 3-7 PM. When Mohan left, Bruce got 2-4 and Goyette when back to 4-7.
During the 29 Aug 02 event, I went up to Bruce before everyone else arrived. I wished him good luck with his new job and hang in there. Later during the Smackdown one of the topics was initiating the "new guy."

While Nurse Jeff and I have other plans for the 14th, we'd like the Smackdowners to debate this dilema: who is left at KFWhyEye to voice the Ted's Hot Dogs commercials since Bruce Jacobs was blown out? The Nearly Bald One and tube-steaks are a class conflict. J.D. Loudmouth is a possibility, but dogs and his diet are a no-no. Broomhandle is just markin' time until a new AMDer is hired. So who does that leave to sell them puppies for at least the next six months?
