DPIII's Sinking Ship

The transcript made me sick. Mo obviously knew what he was doing and didn't care who she was and how anyone would react. WDJQ needs to apologize to the woman and her family. I highly doubt the host even has any remorse for humiliating her.

NOTE: This is just my thoughts and opinion. Feel free to agree to disagree if you don't like what I just posted. I just don't want back-and-forth disagreements. Thank you.
 
The family has reached out to me because of frustration of dealing with Donnie. Apparently he made no apologies. Matter of fact - according to the sister:

I contacted him personally right after this happened. He called me "extreme" because I called in both developmental disabilities boards! He then told me she was "fair game" because she called them. When I asked him about how they screen their calls he said it was an "unreasonable expectation to expect us to change our business model to prevent accidental calls. Should we start answering our phones Q92 did you mean to call?" He's an arrogant ass with no intention of taking responsibility or apologizing. So I decided to define "extreme" for him and we are putting this story into the hands of as much media and as many people as we can. It's not alright to treat people this way...disabled or not!

There are some things you've just GOT to avoid. After the whole "Mongoloid Mike" debacle of 2006, I never made any utterances or illusions to the disabled. In this environment nowadays it's career suicide. These people have websites, social pages, and networks that will ban together to demand your destruction. I witnessed it myself back in '06, and now the world is much more connected.

The poster did a bit called Mongoloid Mike in 2006 and only after a firestorm did nothing further? Before 2006 when you got caught it was fair game?

The poster used the reference "These People" making the the lessons of 2006 appear superficial.

The poster no longer works for the company and decided the best way to handle this was to get involved rather than a polite pass. Was it impossible to say, I'm sorry I no longer work for the company?

As long as we're talking about Things you've just GOT to avoid, Cut the cord. Move on. You left. You sued. You've won.
You can't get ahead looking back. Regardless of your reply, you clearly haven't moved on.

No, John. Sorry to say, I was the idiot that did the "Mike" bit. I was a dumb kid in my mid 20's at the time. At 33, now I know better. (I SHOULD have known better back then).

I don't know anything about Mo, but I DO know about "Mr. The Third". The fact that never came out in the media when my situation was happening, was that Donnie knew about and approved my dumb idea, let it run for 6 months, and then didn't accept ANY of the blame when the stuff hit the fan. It was all on me. Which I accept, by the way. I've grown a LOT since then, and have adjusted my on-air persona accordingly. But Donnie continues on his track of ignorance.

I needed that a-- kicking! Mo needs one too, (I wouldn't wish a firing on anyone though) but what I think DeLuca is trying to point out is that Donnie needs a bigger boot to his.

This will be a learning experience for Mo. Making fun of your callers is just lazy radio, and it's easy to get wrapped up in the character you play on the air. I always remember that even though you are playing a character, your listeners are not. They call in as themselves, so when your character makes fun of them...they take it very personal. As they should. It's real life to them.

I've learned different ways to engage listeners since. I thank God for giving me a second chance, and the opportunity to learn radio all over again from a small market environment. When I leave this job, I'll take with me all of the memories here of listeners running into me in the supermarket, the corner store, etc. with a smile and a handshake, and remember that this IS real life and that everybody matters.

I still think using the phrase "THESE PEOPLE" is out there.

At this point I am learning too much about the history of a radio station and that frankly makes me ignorant for even being in this conversation.
 
Baylor's trying to stir the pot. The "Canton Merry-Go-Round" will be featured on every Cleveland news cast tomorrow.

And - since we're being particular - "THESE PEOPLE was in reference to any organized group of individuals. Whether it be persons with developmental disabilities or minorities, or special interest groups, or the friggin' steel workers. I didn't realize two words would result in such a dissection of my language used.

Point is - Igor is right. We as talent were PUSHED to perform as such today, until something went wrong - like today. From pushing his own political interests on our programs to furthering his own personal agendas we were instructed that our job was to "make [him] happy". We'd be pushed to that edge, then deserted and left to the wolves.

Mo is also to blame. All calls in are pre-recorded and edited by the jock who ultimately decides whether to play the call or not. Mo's own bad judgement landed him in this position.

Lastly, this isn't grinding an ax. I'm still around (105k connections this month on DSN Hits alone), and this is a definite public interest story. Based upon their treatment by Donnie, the family reached out to me and asked for my help in spreading the word.

They'll be on my show tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM to discuss their position.
 
It's very interesting how there are some comedians/entertainers who can get away with things that most others would get hammered for. Take Howard Stern. He had or has "Gary The Retard", who is ... to put in P.C. terms ...
a special needs person. Might depend heavily on what the owners are willing to accept. One thing for sure is that if you live on the edge, as "shock-jocks" do, you've got to expect to slip and get cut a few times.
 
Let's all be honest here. Mo has no business being on a station that targets women. Not saying what he did was right, it wasn't; but he (probably) would've gotten away with this on a WEBN, a DC 101, a 98 Rock, etc. On a Top 40 station?? No. This is just a bad fit, always has been. Such a strange little radio station.
 
Q92 is really crumbling. To be that short-staffed and deal with bad press is helping the station get off to bad start this year. I have a feeling more are going to jump ship. It will be interesting to see how Q and Mix 94.1 (with Q's now-former PD at the helm) will do for the rest of the year.
 
The OAB needs to remove DPIII from the board and distance themselves from his circus sideshow.

Don Peterson III should resign from the cornfield and allow someone with skill to rebuild the crumbling family business. The owners need to step up and get him out, before it is too late. He has gutted the place, in a year's time.

Sounds pretty insincere to me, like they are more worried about bailing advertisers?
